My contribution to terrible 2000s gamer webcomic humor staring Tesi, my gamer fennec. Now she just need to go through a storyline where she gets pregnant and then has a miscarriage. Then it'd truly be a gaming webcomic. For those who don't get it.
Anyways, I'm pretty happy about the shading even if it wasn't planned. I just felt the second panel needed it to actually look good. I'm a bit less happy with the dialog. I'm just terrible at writing that xbox live era gamer trash talk. It isn't in my nature (probably a good thing).

It's more the problem of the tone shift. Imagine you have an entire story that's nothing but comedy and jokes and then suddenly, that. Not to say there haven't been comedy works that have shifted into a more serious tone, but they usually do so gradually. This was pure tonal whiplash and then shortly went back to comedy.
Also, I'm strictly speaking about tone here. I do think it's quite possible to have serious powerful messages within an overall comedic work. It all comes down to skill as a writer. Large shifts in tone though are quite hard to pull off though. Not sure if you've ever seen From Dusk Till Dawn, but the movie has a really off putting tone shift from serious crime drama to over the top silly vampire action flick half way through. I've seen multiple people dislike the film because of how different the first and second half of it are.

I forgot to comment last night when reading this: I had a good chuckle, and yes it is good that you struggle to replicate the speech from that particular era. It's tame in comparison to some things I've overheard but also still carries the vigor well enough to show us Tesi in that mode! The duality of kitsune, haha.
Yeah, I've heard some truly vile stuff from the recordings I've heard. Never participated in that arena. Competitive multiplayer games just aren't really my thing. Still, I knew I wanted I wanted to invoke the feeling of it without actually using any real insults. So I decided on what would you say to be racist against an elf.
The second panel may not be the most true to life trash talk, but it is more creative then just hitting your opponent with swears and slurs every two words. True Xbox live insults lose their effectiveness through sheer repetition after a while.
Also, “Why don’t you go bag to hugging trees” I think you meant to write “back”.

I'll be honest, I mainly thought they were pretty funny. Fennec sized over ear headphones would just be silly. But I was thinking about how to keep them actually on. I figured having side pieces that offer the clamp to deal with ears being more on the top of the head would fix the problem well.
