At an art fair once, I saw the work of a painter who was displaying these unique paintings on wood. Their work involved painting figures as if they were a part of a landscape, with little trees, and even a stream.

I was inspired, and I liked to imagine one original character I came up with, Mephit, in a stylistic scene like this, as I had an idea for what motivates them.
