Not sor the most part. At least not for actual flight. But their bones are not as lightweight as birds or bats for that matter, and cant actually get the lift to take off. So they -do- use magic for take-off ^^

I love all of this, but I think the part I love the most is how you made it look natural and not tacked on like "Wings are kewl~"

Thankyuo very much for that, I guess over the years of drawing the Ukimori ive put more and mor thought into how thier wings are attatched to the body. Im just glad someone can appreciate it and that you also feel it looks 'natural' ^_^ *hugs*

How they're attached is only part of a "natural" look, though... there's also the supporting muscles to consider. Flight in RL animals takes a hell of a lot of strength, which is why birds have such large chest muscles and a deep keelbone (sternum). On an anthro - assuming approximately human size - the flight muscles would be enormous, probably almost doubling the size of the chest.

Note, I'm not complaining or anything... just a little real-world reference from a guy who knows too much for his own good, and is far too willing to share it. (smirks)

Yeah I lknow there is a lot to consider for that sort of thing. And believe me having the ukimoori/UV for at least 6 years, Ive done plenty of studies into wings/flight etc. But since they are fantasy creatures (and creatures capable of magic to aid flight if they need) i take certain creative liberties XD

(and dont worry I know your not complaining. Your discussing things with me and I am happy to discuss them with you ^_^)

(chuckles) Ain't artistic license great? There's plenty of reasons why one of these (or any fantasy avian) could work just fine without "realistic" musculature... magic spells or psionics to support them while flying, or maybe they come from a low-gravity world, or whatever.

Not to mention, your UV character with a barrel-chest would look really... REALLY... weird.

The guy depicted here and showing off his wings is Neru, the 3rd created Ukimori.

I felt this turned out very well in two senses. The first being the creativity of the Ukimori’s wings and how their constructed, while at the same time, how they portray something of a connection between the splicing of two beings. That’s something that I’ve been noticing in the evolution of your Ukimori design – how they’re becoming more like the hybrid of the two species they’re derived from; here with the wings and earlier with the changes to the hands, which seem more derived from hooves now and more of a connection to Unicorns.

The second sense is the organization and anatomical display of their wings, much like something one would see in an anatomy book of Ukimori if such a book existed. I especially like the use of soft blue/green for the display of the membrane as it’s easy on the eyes and clear to distinction as well.

Again, the evolution of your Ukimori is becoming more like the hybrid of the two species they derive from and this is an excellent example of the creativity and thought behind it. Great work on this. :)

She cant fly if she is wearing a corset but she can wear them, they just go over the membrane, as like I said, the membrane is very stretchy/elastic.

it would be uncomfortable a bit yes, but proper corsets or waist cinces are uncomforatable and can limit movement anyways XD

Your Ukimori design really is interesting and sexy all around. I like anthro bats and a little bit of unicorn added, makes a yummy cocktail ;)
If I just would have some skills, I'd like to give a try to draw one myself... oh well, maybe some day, after lots and lots of practice.
