This painting depicts the seller of souls, represented by the artist at the apogee of cunning. Sellers of souls in the Underworld were considered harbingers of chaos, because they could exchange a human soul for short-term pleasures or a chance for self-realization. The painting was painted during the period of Zink Shan's study of religion.
