I did quite a bit of research first. Of course I did the 'can I keep him' before finding out they actually aren't that hard to care for. lots of dirt, pool large enough for them, medium temps, etc... of course they eat earthworms and other buggies that won't try to eat him like dragonflies @.@

My fiancée' is too much of an ogre to use a mouse that small(it was his, just better lighting was over that table) XD

I'd never seen one before (not originally from Oregon) and thought I found a blue-belly lizard, but he was dark and slimy (and rounded head) from under the board I lifted. I was so happy to find one and that they eat virtually anything you can find outside.

I have always wanted a pet skink...........which you will have no idea what that is unless you have ever lived near marshes or swamps..

I lived in Florida(southern florida with my grandma) for a while and i used to catch some kinda lizard who's tail would fall off if I grabbed it instead of the body... not sure if they are the same ones though.

Those would be geckos... green or brown usually..

Skinks are of a variety of colors, usually they look black, and serpentine,at first glance, but have fluorescent colors on closer inspection, some look like an oil slick when the light hits them, other are bright and shiny like this guy http://www.roundrockjournal.com/wp-.....tent/skink.JPG ........you would be correct in assuming that the universal law governing colorful lizards and amphibians does apply here..

Oh yeah! They are around here too. My pup has played with them before.

Thanks! That gave some extra details on how to feed 'im. Although.. do you feed him by hand or just release the bugs in the tank?

It seems that you release the bugs by hand, because they are attracted to the movement. But I would look into that some more.

just because he's cute doesn't mean you get to sleep with him... and so help me if I wake up with him... I will but him right back where we found him... UNDER THE TIRE OF THE RV!!!

Thanks! I have been adding a little bit of water to the soil to keep it moist (not just for the 'mander but for the worms in there too). Could you tell me more about feeding him? I put worms, slugs, and rolly-pollys in there, but I'm not sure if he's eating. He's still active and swimming in his pool thingy and moving around, so I'd assume he was okay.

He might just be getting used to his new home. He was used to being somewhere else, now hes in a tank and being fed food, not having to hunt for it. He'll adjust eventually. As for feeding, Worms, Grubs, Crickets, Mealworms, ants, grasshoppers (small ones depending on his size) things like that. I also wouldn't use a heat lamp if you are. You /can/ he does need some heat, but because of there skin, it can do a lot of harm too, its why there soil needs to be kept damp.

I haven't put a heat rock in there yet, but considering we keep the house at around 60-70 degrees I figured he was okay.

Do not, use a heat rock. that is horrible for reptiles. They'll get too hot, and be unable to move away to get cool. Just a heat lamp over his cage in one spot will work ^^
