Wanted to draw this good girl for quite a while, so here she is ✨
You know folks, I actually love "Fox and the Hound 2". Back in the day, it was one of my favorite Disney sequels (well, midquels), even.
I managed to see this movie shortly before I got online for the first time, and I enjoyed it a lot. But when I got to my first forums... Oh boi, there was a surpsised amount of criticism around this movie. And my natural reaction was pretty much: huh?
Well, people mostly criticized it for how goofy and childish it was compared to the serious and dramatic original. But thinking about it, is the original "Fox and the Hound" really that flawless to begin with? Because it seems to me that all these critics seemed to deliberately pretend they had forgotten all about some extra-annoying duo, who had no real reason to be there at all, who ruined the serious tone of the movie every time they appeared, and who stole waaay more screentime than they deserve.
So yes, the midquel may be not all that serious, but it tells a story about the childhood of the main characters, so it makes sense that it is kinda childish itself, no? Honestly, I would rather watch "Fox and the Hound 2" twice in a row than original "Fox and the Hound" but only Dinky and Boomer scenes from there. Even as a kid, when watching the first movie, I left to make tea or grab some snacks every time their scenes began. Midquel, on the other hand, gave me not only more of the story about the main chars, but also some other new lovely canine chars - at the time when I was obsessed with such kind of characters the most. That's why I have warm nostalgic feelings about them even to this day.
And as you can tell from the fanart already, Dixie was my fav. A gorgeous Saluki who, if not for her singing career, could actually be a serious competitor to Cooper and Chief combined as a hound dog xd
Her breed is one of the ancient breeds, and I always was very fond of ancient breeds of cats and dogs - that's amazing how these creatures were molded by nature itself. So, in my art here I made Dixie look a little more complex than she looked in the movie to better highlight her Saluki appearance 💖

Dixie is so adorable in your style!
And I'll admit, I enjoy the midquel too even as a fan of the original movie. In a way, the complete absence of Dinky and Boomer in the midquel was a great decision in my opinion since, as much as I love the original film, they were always my least favourite aspect of that film too, so replacing them with better-written and more likeable characters like Dixie and Cash was a saving grace in the midquel for me. Big Mama could have stayed around at least, but I digress.
