For #nationaltrainday I’ll share my latest project related to Life Beside the Tracks; San Joaquin Valley Lines No. 1. This model started out as a nice Bachmann model of Pennsylvania Railroad No. 566. However, I only wanted it because the engine was perfect to represent the small 4-4-0s that were in the Central Valley. Examples include Yosemite Valley No. 1 (later No. 20) and San Joaquin & Eastern No. 1331.
Anyway, here’s the lore behind the San Joaquin Valley Lines:
The San Joaquin Valley Lines was established in 1892 by local businessmen who were fed up with Southern Pacific’s high freight rates and the lack of competition in their area. As a means to break the Octopus’s monopoly, these businessmen (along with the soon approaching Santa Fe from Bakersfield) established this railroad to serve the east San Joaquin Valley area with comparatively fair rates while also having local control on operations. The communities serve towns like Exeter, Lindsay, and Dutch’s Corner (later shortened to Ducor) along with cities like Fresno and Bakersfield.
In the context of the comic and the future layout, the focus will be their operations around the fictional small city of Putnamville CA in current times. The current operations of the line include the shipment of produce, lumber, and chemicals for a processing plant south of town along with other mixed freight.
So yeah, that’s my first bit of lore for my future model railroad. Enjoy your day and Happy National Train Day!!!Please comment!!!!!San Joaquin Valley Lines©KCFoxStudios

Nice little build. I had to read about the Yosemite Valley Railroad.
FWIW, there is a Putnamville in Indiana, where there is a pretty little church and a prison.
