It was 1984, and I convinced my friend Tony that it would be a good idea to drive from Hobart to Cairns and back in a 1972 Cortina. To put that it context, it would be roughly like driving from LA to New York and back. We drove way, way over the speed limit the whole time (and I don't recommend or condone this - it was stupid) and somewhere near Shepperton on the way back, the cops pulled me over for doing literally twice the speed limit.
