Operation Ragnarok Chapter 8: The Fall of a King
The final showdown. Been hyping this up for a while, and this finale has been my longest chapter of ANYTHING in years. Over 6000 words long of a fight and now it's finally over. The fall of Atrimel.
See you guys soon for the Epilogue to close out Operation Ragnarok
The room was dead silent for only a moment. An air of hatred and despair lingered in the atmosphere as Leah and Thorya began to hyperventilate. Kajex was quivering in place, clinging his Keyblades shakily in his grasp. Atrimel himself however, merely exuded raw FURY that overrode almost all traces of panic in the room.
“What… what did you just say Thorya?” Leah squeaked under her breath, tears streaking down her face like raindrops.
“You heard me right Ms Alura,” Thorya panted as they finally let go of the scraps of their metal arm, “He wrote down the whole thing in his diaries.” Atrimel clawed at the side of his out of anger.
“Diaries that YOU should’ve kept your nose out of boy!” Atrimel growled with a ferocious look in his eyes. Kajex remained silent, unable to fully process it all, choosing to let Thorya speak about everything that happened.
“How… how did he do it then?” Leah cried, unable to control herself. Atrimel chose to let Thorya speak. He thought that no matter what nobody was leaving the room alive anyways.
“He hired a hitman…” Thorya quivered, trying not to let the image paint itself too clearly in their mind, “Had him rig his equipment at work so that when he got into the right position… he’d get crushed under the weight of those steel beams.” Leah was bawling her eyes out, still remembering the day she saw him, lying in a hospital bed with his bones completely shattered, barely breathing.
“The metal shard that sliced through the underside of his eye was just a bonus,” Thorya continued, tears welling up in their eyes more and more, “He even made sure to have the roads nearby closed down so the paramedics couldn’t make it in time.” Leah was bawling now, her cries echoing into the void of the room at the top of her lungs.
“Y-You… YOU set all that up?!” Leah growled as she gritted her teeth, “What did you have to GAIN from killing my Isaiah?!” Kajex backed up a bit, feeling a newfound level of RAGE building up inside of his mother.
“Easy,” Atrimel scoffed at the helpless lucario, “Kajex was what I had to gain.” Kajex’s fear turned into his own anger, his grip tightening on his blades as his eyes sparked light purple once more.
“What do you MEAN you had me to gain?!” Kajex shouted at the top of his lungs, unable to keep himself composed any longer. A devilish grin was replacing the anger strewn across Atrimel’s face.
“Ardos gave me an interesting hypothesis on how we could weaponize Dynamax Radiation,” Atrimel continued in a smug tone, “Suggested the idea that we could infuse a fetus with it while still in the womb, and someone here just so happened to be early on in her pregnancy when he gave me the idea.” Leah had lost all control over herself at those words.
“YOU… YOU USED ME!!!” Leah growled, her heart pounding in her chest rapidly with adrenaline.
“And Isaiah was the only reason you were about to leave my research team,” Atrimel began to cackle as the events flowed through his mind, “Did you ever WONDER why we kept sending you to handle the energy core in the hazmat suits?! Did you never CONSIDER when you saw your stillborn and your weakling little mutt that maybe we’d been rigging the suits to hasten the mutation process?!” Atrimel broke down into maniacal laughter and Kajex was NOT having it.
“YOU’RE SICK YOU’RE FUCKING SICK IN THE HEAD!!!” Kajex shouted at the top of his lungs once more, throwing his Keyblades at Atrimel at top speed, “You killed my dad just for a CHANCE at something like me?! What were you gonna do if me and Kaja both died, if mom was even more fuck up genetic wise than she already is after giving birth to me?!” Atrimel caught both blades in his hands, only small traces of blood oozing onto the blades.
“Easy,” Atrimel scoffed as Kajex called the blades back to him, “Dispose of her as well. Say she died during an accident at work and pay off any measly damages to her mom.” Leah was borderline rabid with rage. She wanted Atrimel MORE than just dead. She wanted to watch the madman suffer.
“You’re not getting away with this you bastard!” Leah howled as she tried to wiggle out from her restraints.
“Oh but I will,” Atrimel scoffed as he threw off his cape, “Always have and always will.” Atrimel pulled out the same earpiece as before and put it on, immediately using it to call Ardos.
“Go ahead and evacuate the palace in case things get ugly,” Atrimel smirked as he stared down at his two opponents, “My son and Kajex are getting riled up.”
“Right away my liege,” Ardos’s voice echoed before Thorya clenched their fist in pure rage.
“Not if I have any say in it!” Thorya exclaimed as they used Volt Switch to get up to Atrimel and prepared to throw a Power Up Punch straight into Atrimel’s stomach. The king absorbed it without a hitch, quickly grabbing Thorya by the tail in the brief moment he had.
“You can’t do a thing about it,” Atrimel growled before flinging Thorya into the wall beside him, “You can’t fight without an arm! You can’t even use the move passed down through our bloodline!” Kajex rushed up to Atrimel once more, throwing his Keyblades ahead of him.
“That’s not gonna work,” Atrimel scoffed as he caught the blades again. Kajex however used Extreme Speed to get behind Atrimel, now preparing to use a pair of enlarged arms to unleash a barrage of attacks with Close Combat, but Atrimel expected such.
“Told you it wasn’t,” Atrimel scoffed as he smashed the handles of the blades together behind him, having them slice into the sides of Kajex’s torso and forcing the lucario to cough up blood. Atrimel turned around and grabbed him by the face in an iron grip while he was staggered, Kajex trying to break free.
“Let me go!” Kajex coughed up more blood onto Atrimel’s chest, flailing around as he tried to break free.
“How about I-” Atrimel began before he felt something blow behind him.
“He said let go!” Thorya cried out as they used Volt Switch to charge straight into Atrimel’s back. Atrimel was once again unfazed.
“Fine then,” Atrimel scoffed as he swung Kajex around like a bat and threw the two straight into the wall. The wall cracked a bit upon impact and the two were already getting tired. They could barely lay a scratch on the king unless they had a miracle.
“Kajex Thorya!” Leah cried out in a panic.
“Grrrrrh he’s getting on my nerves already,” Thorya gritted as Kajex got off of them.
“We just don’t have the full on power and unpredictability we need to get past him,” Kajex panted as he called the Keyblades back to his grasp.
“And as I said before,” Atrimel smirked as he finally stepped off of his pedestal and down towards the two, “You never had a chance.” Kajex and Thorya fumbled to their feet, blood oozing from several cuts and scrapes across their bodies as their visions began to blur.
“One of you is already severely drained from the constant fights I forced you through,” Atrimel chuckled softly as he got closer and closer to them, “And the other is missing an arm and even lost it trying to learn Plasma Fists!” Thorya gritted their teeth, knowing that he wasn’t wrong as to how he lost his arm initially.
“I-I…” Thorya stammered before trying to find their footing.
“We don’t need a technique like that to beat you!” Kajex countered, the blood dripping from his skull and onto the floor. Leah was nervous, trying to stir Cherry awake so that she could tell them what needed to be destroyed on the Veiler.
“If I were you,” Atrimel chuckled as Kajex and Thorya tried to attack him from both sides, “I’d think otherwise.” Atrimel dodged their attacks as if it were second nature, the two inevitably slugging each other in the face before Atrimel grabbed them by the back of their skulls, slamming their faces together and staggering them.
“Cherry, wake up please!” Leah urged as she tried to shake the meowstic awake.
“I’ve been training with my powers my whole life!” Atrimel growled as he slammed them together again and again, “You’re just a handicapped runt and a broken toy! You wouldn’t be ready to beat me in even a hundred years!” He threw the two aside once more, both of them writhing and groveling in agony.
“He’s got us wrapped around his finger,” Thorya wheezed as blood got into their eye, “We can’t hit him and do any sort of damage with his guard up.”
“If only I could-” Kajex wheezed, before he thought back to how he saved Kaja for a brief moment, “... wait a second.”
“You got something?” Thorya coughed as they fumbled to their feet, “We could use something right about now.”
“It’s… something incredibly risky,” Kajex panted as he glanced towards Thorya with his eyes glowing brightly, “Do you trust me?” Thorya looked back at Kajex with confidence.
“I trust you more than I trust myself,” Thorya assured them as Atrimel began to approach them, “Do it!” Without any hesitation Kajex placed his hand on Thorya’s shoulder and began to focus, Atrimel not knowing what he was planning.
“What on earth are you planning?!” the king growled as Kajex’s eyes glew like purple fire.
“If I can cut off the flow,” Kajex breathed as Thorya readied a fighting stance, “Then I should be able to kickstart one!”
“K-Kickstart a flow?” Thorya stammerer as Atrimel prepared to strike, “What do you-” Atrimel understood exactly what Kajex was trying.
“Oh no you don't!” Atrimel growled as he lunged towards the two with a Wild Charge. It was too late however. The Dynamax red glow formed in Kajex's palm against Thorya's fur. Soon enough the prince would suddenly over double in height and absorb Atrimel's attack like it was nothing.
“Wh-Whoa!” Thorya booked as they felt a rush of adrenaline in their veins, “How'd you do it?!”
“Just… did the opposite of what I did to Kaja,” Kajex replied, Atrimel now on edge.
“Just one little dose of bulk isn't gonna magically turn this around worms!” Atrimel growled, becoming more and more unhinged with every single thing going down.
“We’ll see about that!” Thorya exclaimed as they slugged Atrimel right on the face. A little blood oozed out of the King's mouth, and with it, his rage would boil over tenfold.
“You… you DARE to draw my blood?!” Atrimel exclaimed in pure fury, “You two are already ALL over my nerves!” He was so focused on Thorya's fist that he didn't see what Kajex was planning right behind him.
“And we're just getting started!” Kajex countered as his blades sliced into Atrimel's sides. Atrimel let out a gasp as he suddenly took the blow, but the blades… they didn't cut very deep.
“Nice try boy,” Atrimel smirked as he grabbed Kajex by the wrists, “But you need to do better than that.” Kajex kicked and flailed around, but Atrimel’s vice grip wouldn’t budge even a millimeter.
“L-Let me go!” Kajex exclaimed as Thorya slugged Atrimel right in the gut from out of the blue, making the king stagger for a moment and blood oozed from the edges of their mouth.
“You got the two of us to worry about here!* Thorya continued as they tried to land another punch. Atrimel’s rage was boiling over, borderline SEARING through the blood in his veins now as he wiped the blood off of his face. Thorya knew they made a mistake with that one punch.
“I know I do!” Atrimel countered as he used Kajex as a kickstand and countered the punch with his foot, sending Thorya tumbling backwards, “I am just warming up!” He flung Kajex right into Thorya’s stomach, forcing them to collide against the wall once more, a large crater forming upon impact.
“You okay?!” Thorya gritted as blood oozed from the side of their mouth.
“Could… be better,” Kajex wheezed as he tried to find his footing again. Atrimel wasn’t done with just one punch however.
“I am DONE dealing with you insects!” Atrimel growled as he lunged forward and slugged Kajex in the face as he staggered, “You worms were born to be in MY image and this usurping is getting VERY tiresome!” Blood would gush from Kajex’s mouth, his vision growing blurry as Atrimel kept forcing them to get pressed harder and harder against the wall. Thorya would try to grab Atrimel to stop the onslaught to no avail.
“This is MY world and you’re lucky I considered leaving you in it!” Atrimel exclaimed as he grabbed Kajex by the throat and Thorya by the tail, “And now you DARED to actually land a blow on me?! What kind of INSIGNIFICANT WORTHLESS SACKS OF FLESH DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?!” Kajex was squirming, feeling the blood flow to his brain being cut off
“Hang on!” Thorya exclaimed as they grabbed Atrimel’s tail and yanked him off of Kajex so he could finally breathe. Kajex would cough fervently as Atrimel decided to focus on Thorya, pouring all of his strength into his grip on the prince’s tail to try and swing them around like a morning star before slamming them into the wall beside Kajex.
“I think it’s about time I give you two a MUCH needed wake up call!” Atrimel gritted as his eyes began to spark blue along with his whiskers. Kajex’s vision was only just beginning to clear up as Thorya realized exactly what was about to happen.
“KAJEX RUN!!!” Thorya panicked as they fumbled to their feet, recognizing the move.
“Wh-Wha?” Kajex wheezed as he rubbed his throat, “What’s he-” They were too late to run. Electricity cackled around Atrimel’s body as he lunged for the two at lightning speeds. He was using Plasma Fists.
“Now kneel!” Atrimel shouted at the top of his lungs as bolts of lightning shot his fists upon contact with the two. They were sent barreling through wall after wall with the force of a speeding bullet train until they skidded across the floor in the room with the Veiler. As they did however, Cherry began to stir.
“Uuuuuh…” Cherry groaned under her breath, her eyelids still feeling too heavy to open.
“Come on, wake up Cherry!” Leah urged as she tried to wiggle her awake, “Kajex and Thorya need you right now!” Atrimel slowly walked towards the two, his eye filled with an intimidating malice as they convulsed on the ground, electricity cackling around their bodies.
“That one really smarts…” Kajex gritted as he forced himself to sit upright. Thorya’s fear of the move was polluting their mind, looking down at their lack of an arm.
“I can’t control a move like that,” Thorya sweated as their eyes narrowed down towards their arm as they tried to stand up. Kajex glanced towards Thorya as he got to his feet, feeling the fear rushing through Thorya’s mind all at once.
“Don't lose hope now Thorya!” Kajex assured the prince as Atrimel drew closer and closer to them. The king decided it was time to play as dirty as possible now and clapped his hands together.
“Minions, attack my son and the impudent fool of a weapon until they can’t move a muscle!” Atrimel shouted as an onslaught of footsteps began to rush into the Veiler room. Kajex and Thorya sweating bullet after bullet now as they realized what Atrimel had done.
“And here I thought you couldn’t get any scummier,” they said in unison as the door to the room was barged down.
“I have to do whatever it takes to put you two down,” Atrimel cackled as his horde flooded the room and went straight for the heroes. They immediately prepared for a long fight.
“W-Well,” Kajex stammered, his confidence waning a bit, “You aren’t gonna get us that easily!”
“We’ll get them and then find a way to shut this thing down!” Thorya continued, trying to hide their fear over Plasma Fists behind a tough facade.
“Impossible to shut it down without blowing up half of this planet anyways,” Atrimel scoffed as he glanced back towards the hostages a few rooms away, “If I were you I’d give up already. I already won.”
“No you haven’t,” Kajex gritted as he and Thorya went back to back, pumping Thorya with another charge of Dynamax Energy in the process, “As long as we have a chance you haven’t won yet!” The army attacked, Thorya growing another dozen feet taller or so before the two unleashed their counterattacks. They did still have a chance, one, small chance just waiting in another room.
“Wha…? Cherry groaned as she began to register the noises of clanging metals and punches being thrown.
“Cherry, we need you!” Leah shouted at the top of her lungs, her heart thumping with adrenaline and anxiety. Kajex and Thorya were sending more and more opponents flying, trying to thin out their numbers so they could finally get back at Atrimel, but they couldn’t make a dent.
“There’s too many of them here!” Thorya shouted as they kicked a dozen into the wall, “We’re not gonna make it!”
“We still gotta keep trying!” Kajex shouted as he crushed several in an iron grip with an enlarged palm, “We’re too close to give up!”
“You’re not even half as close as you think you are,” Atrimel smirked as he watched the two struggle while he still could. His time having the upper hand was finally over.
“What… is…?” Cherry groaned as she finally began to open her eyes. Soon enough, Cherry finally registered what was going on around them as Atrimel watched the horde battle between his slaves and the heroes. The wires in her brain were finally reconnecting.
“Wh-What’s going on?!” Cherry panicked as she tried to wriggle out from her restraints, “Why am I all tied up and how’d Kajex get-”
“We can explain all of that later!” Leah assured her as she caught a glimpse of Kajex and Thorya, “Tell them how to shut off that device!” Cherry noticed the sudden change in both Thorya’s height and Kajex’s eye color. She didn’t know exactly what was going on, but she knew she had to pass along the information.
“Kajex! Thorya!” she shouted at the top of her lungs, her throat still scuffed from Atrimel choking her earlier. They glanced down the slew of busted walls to see the meowstic had regained consciousness. Atrimel’s anger was flaring up again.
“Get that girl to shut up!” Atrimel growled as some of the minions went rushing for the hostages, but the king was already too late to stop her.
“Smash the connector to the power core!” Cherry continued, her voice sounding all scratchy the more she screamed, “It’s the only way to force the whole device to shut down without damaging the core itself!” Kajex and Thorya glanced up towards the brightly glowing core, seeing a large piece connected to the side of the core that was seemingly siphoning power from the core. That had to be the piece she was talking about.
“You wretched girl!” Atrimel shouted back at the hostages, “You really don’t give up now do you?!”
“Helps when you’re as stubborn as me!” Cherry growled back, her anger turning into a smug grin soon enough, even as the guards apprehended them to get them to shut up. The heroes knew all they needed to know to get Miiteru to stop all of this.
“Thorya, keep them busy, I got it!” Kajex shouted as he leaped up towards the piece with extreme speed, but Atrimel blocked him with a single punch to send Kajex flying back.
“You will NOT touch my device!” Atrimel growled as Kajex reoriented himself.
“I won't,” Kajex said with a soft smirk as he held both Keyblades behind him, “But these will!” He threw the Keyblades one last time like saw blades, the two weaving around Atrimel and getting lodged into the device. However, they couldn’t do anywhere near enough damage to sever it from the core and the cuts were healing just like the collars.
“He wove the same material into this device too?!” Cherry shouted before she got her face kicked in by a guard. Atrimel was finally calming down.
“Good to know that neither of you have the necessary power to completely sever it,” Atrimel began as he calmed down, “I am still safe from his- I mean HER interference.”
“Just watch us!” Thorya shouted as they and Kajex rushed towards the device. They tried to slug the connector with all of their might, Kajex even enlarging his fist for it, but it barely made a dent in the metal and only forced the blades in deeper as if they were nails being driven into wood. They needed something stronger.
“It’s no good!” Kajex gritted as they landed on the ground and were forced to counter more goons heading their way, “We didn’t have enough punch behind-” Kajex realized something in that moment. He recalled how Atrimel used Plasma Fists to send them flying through walls to get here. It was the only way Kajex could think of to get enough power behind an attack to destroy the connector and he glanced towards Thorya with hope.
“Thorya we need DO Plasma Fists to destroy this thing!” Kajex shouted at the top of his lungs, “Think you can manage it?!” Thorya began to hyperventilate at those words. Images flashing through their mind about the landslide that took away their arm the first time. They were overcome with fear once more.
“N-No I-” Thorya began before they were suddenly cut off.
“You’re SERIOUS?!” Atrimel cackled with glee towards the seemingly delusional lucario, “Last time I ever helped with his training he lost that arm and that was years ago! You REALLY think he can pull it off? Let alone missing one arm?!” Atrimel was hysterical as Kajex glanced towards Thorya. The zeraora was cowering in fear, paralyzed with their fear and trauma while Kajex saved them from some sneak attacks.
“I-I can’t…” Thorya mumbled as tears welled up in their eyes, “I CAN’T DO IT!!!!” Kajex saved them from blow after blow, still filled with hope. As he looked towards Thorya, he could clearly see the person he used to be, someone who couldn’t face their past with a straight face.
“You can Thorya!” Kajex assured them with all of their heart, “I know it’s tough, I was in your position until earlier today! I was running away from my past, pretending it never happened until its repercussions rammed me in the face!” Kajex had to guard a blow and sent the attacker flying towards Atrimel, to which he swatted the grunt out of the way in disgust.
“But all it takes is a willingness to accept a mistake or your trauma to move on!” Kajex continued with tears in his eyes, “Learn from it, grow from it and let it mold you into a better person! He doesn’t control you anymore! You are you and you are the one shot we have at ending this charade once and for all!” The words left an imprint on Thorya, the tears continuing to streak down their face as Kajex kept the fight going despite the sheer amount of exhaustion he was experiencing. Kajex was fighting while they stood still.
“Kajex..” Thorya mumbled as Atrimel began to step into the fight once more.
“Stop blabbering worm,” Atrimel scoffed as he went for Thorya, “I’m sick of this fight and wish to move onto the rest of the world already!” However, his blow didn’t land. Thhorya caught Atrimel’s fists in a single palm and gave them an iron grip, all without looking at their opponent.
“More like you need to shut you bastard,” Thorya growled as he sent Atrimel flying back into the horde before leaping into the air. Atrimel knew what they were going to try and he was NOT having it.
“Get down here now!” Atrimel shouted as he leapt up towards Thorya.
“More like you get back here!” Kajex countered as he blocked Atrimel from reaching Thorya. He wasn’t letting him get through to stop Thorya.
“Out of my way!” Atrimel growled as he tried to attack Thorya again.
“How about no?!” Kajex countered as he stopped him again by grabbing his tail for once before throwing him back down into the ground. Atrimel’s calm and calculated demeanor was shattered the second his Veiler was in danger and now he couldn't focus on the threat right in front of him.
“After everything you’ve done it’s time for karma to hit you where it hurts!” Kajex shouted as he punched Atrimel in the gut at max force, making him stagger once again, “That’s for turning my sister into your puppet!” He cried out once again before he smashed Atrimel’s forearm over his knee like he did to Zaria back in the Grand Clash as the king once again tried to go after Thorya.
“That’s for what you put mom through for several years of our lives!” Kajex cried as he grabbed Atrimel’s skull and smashed it on his knee as well while the king adjusted to the pain, “And this is for killing a father I never got to meet!” As he was hitting Atrimel where it hurt as he kept trying to go after the prince. Thorya took a deep breath and braced themselves for a do or die moment.
“He doesn’t have a hold on me anymore,” Thorya said as they took a deep breath, “And that incident isn’t holding onto me anymore.” As they said this electricity began to cackle around Thorya, their whiskers sparking light blue as Atrimel caught sight of this and immediately went into overdrive.
“You are not getting any further with that!” Atrimel fumbled before lunging towards Thorya one more time. This time actually considering Kajex a proper threat.
“Oh no you-” Kajex began before Atrimel grabbed him by the tail.
“Oh no YOU don’t!” Atrimel growled at the top of his lungs as he threw Kajex directly at Thorya. However, Kajex still had one last trick up his sleeve.
“Kajex!” Thorya shouted as they glanced towards their partner for a moment.
“Hurry Thorya!” Kajex exclaimed before she used his powers to shrink down to the size of a bug so that he didn’t knock Thorya out of the air, “Atrimel’s coming for you!” Kajex immediately reverted to his normal size and now forced to deal with the onslaught of grunts coming after him. It was just father and child now.
“You’re coming back here with me!” Atrimel shouted as he reached for Thorya’s tail one final time. It was at that moment something sparked inside Thorya’s heart.
“I was never yours to begin with,” Thorya uttered as they opened their eyes, them now sparking with blue electricity. They’d rush towards the connector as the blue bits of fur sparked a bright blue, electricity cackling around them like an aura.
“He’s bound to lose control!” Atrimel thought as sweat poured down his cheeks, but still chose to try and stop Thorya’s attack.
“My fear doesn’t have a hold on me anymore!” Thorya shouted, remembering the incident, how Atrimel tried to force Thorya to obey his every word in training, “And now I can finally do it!” Lightning struck Thorya’s hand, Atrimel quickly realizing that Thorya wasn’t losing control. They let go of their fear and were now able to do what they thought was impossible.
“YOU GET AWAY FROM THAT RIGHT-” Atrimel growled before Thorya finally made their move.
“I don’t listen to psychopaths!” Thorya countered as they finally landed the punch. Their fist tore through the metal like it was made of paper. Thousands of volts tearing through the machinery until it was split in half. The pillar of light shooting from the core was dissipating and the skies began to clear. The device was shutting down and Atrimel was FURIOUS!
“WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!” Atrimel shouted as he pounced onto Thorya’s chest the second they landed, “MY 20 YEARS WORTH OF WORK THROWN AWAY!!!” He clawed at Thorya’s cheek, making deep gashes in their flesh as Thorya stood there, taking it like it was nothing.
“You did it Thorya!” Kajex wheezed as he finally let his exhaustion kick in, falling onto a knee as he panted and wheezed, “The veil… it’s going away!”
“Kajex…” Thorya said with a soft smirk, “More like we did-” Atrimel was beyond any point of keeping things civil anymore.
“DON’T YOU IGNORE ME!!!” Atrimel shouted as he reached for Thorya’s eye, “I AM NOT FINISHED WITH YOU!!!”
“I’m already done with you,” Thorya coldly replied before swatting Atrimel off of their face, “You’re finished now. Your Ragnarok is over.” Atrimel let out a roar of pure ANGER at those words. He never dreamed that Thorya of all people would talk back to him.
“YOU DON’T TALK TO ME THAT WAY!!!” Atrimel roared, punching the ground, pieces of cement tearing from the ground. Kajex would look down on the king like he was the dirt on the side of the road.
“We sure as fuck can now,” Kajex said with a slight smirk, only serving to further anger Atrimel.
“And now you’re gonna pay the price for everything you’ve done over the past 20 years,” Thorya smirked as they stood beside Kajex. Atrimel wasn’t finished. He wanted to give them a piece of his mind and then some.
“Why I’d oughta-” Atrimel growled as he attempted one final punch directed at Kajex’s face. It was almost instantaneous what came next. The area around Atrimel, Thorya, and Kajex broke away as if it were made of glass, all they could see was an off white void… but that shade of white was all too familiar to Kajex.
“Where are-” Thorya said in a confused tone as they looked all around them.
“Th-This must be-” Kajex stammered before the ground beneath them began to rumble like a max magnitude earthquake.
“I should’ve known you were up to something Atrimel,” a familiar voice boomed as the ground beneath them began to quake and tremble, “Should’ve known since I felt a shockwave ring through the multiverse the way it did at the very least.” Their skyline soon went from pure white to a dark green. They were on Miteru’s fingertip, her true body even.
“M-Miteru!” Kajex exclaimed with a sigh of relief, “I’ve never been happier to see you!”
“L-Lady arceus herself?!” Thorya sweated, knowing that they were in the presence of the highest authority.
“I was wondering why everything was looking so… off in Orrei with everyone moving so… robotically,” Miteru continued as Atrimel let go of Thorya out of fear, “Then I noticed that weird veil disappearing and I saw all the destruction going on in your hometown. Your current conditions aren’t helping his case any more either.” Miteru looked down right at the king, her rage literally making her blood boil as the ground beneath them began to increase in temperature.
“What do you have to say for yourself, Atrimel? I already know this was all your doing,” Miteru finished, waiting for Atrimel’s answer. Atrimel said nothing for a moment until his anger boiled over again already.
“I have nothing to say to a cowardly deity like you!” Atrimel countered in malice, “My Ragnarok was to finally overthrow you and bring the world under MY rule! A world more befitting the mindless puppets you let run around!” Miteru simply sighed at his response.
“I haven’t had a single attempt in being usurped in over 3000 years,” Miteru sighed as she separated Atrimel from the two heroes, “And you almost got me if these two didn’t hate you enough to stop you.” Kajex and Thorya stood side by side now, Kajex now using the technique he used on Kaja to shrink Thorya back down to size, Miteru noticing Kajex’s temporary eye color change.
“And for that, from the bottom of my heart,” Miteru said with a hopeful tone towards the two heroes, “Thank you, both of you for dealing with him before things got worse.” They felt a sense of genuine pride in their actions.
“We did what we had to,” Kajex assured, tears welling up in his eyes from all the praise.
“I let him get away from his crimes all too long,” Thorya continued as they clenched their fist, “So much blood was shed for his Ragnarok to even start…”
“Bloodshed that YOU wasted!” Atrimel struggled as he tried to wriggle free to no avail.
“More like bloodshed YOU wasted bastard,” Kajex countered as he glared at the helpless zeraora. Miteru chose to ignore his babbling for a moment longer.
“Then tell me everything,” Miteru assured them, “For now I am placing this former king in a befitting prison.” Atrimel growled at those words. He truly believed that he didn’t deserve any of this.
“Unhand me NOW!!!” Atrimel gritted, still trying to break free from his unseen restraints, “You do not deserve the power you do! It belongs to ME!!!”
“I only use my power when I have to,” Miteru countered as she put a curse on the king, “And I save it for vermin like you.” In that instance Atrimel vanished in a burst of golden light. He was never to be seen again. The two mortals looked in disbelief as every trace of the former king disappeared.
“What did you-” Kajex stammered as he processed what just happened.
“I sent him to my special prison pocket dimension reserved for only the worst criminals,” Miteru assured them, “He will never age, he will never die. He will be bound to a stone, unable to move, and unable to get food for eternity, stuck wallowing in his own thoughts for billions upon billions of years. For someone who committed a sin as abysmal as him, he deserves an eternal punishment. Death is a form of mercy for scum like him.” Kajex was sweating bullets, never knowing that Miteru was capable of such a punishment, but at the same time… thankful he got what he deserved.
“Thank you lady arceus,” Thorya said with a bow, their body still shaking.
“Please dear,” Miteru said with a smile, “Call me Miteru. You two are the first people in over 5000 years to see my true body as well. I treat people like you extra special.”
“I-If you say so,” Thorya sweated as their heart pounded in their chest, still barely comprehending the situation.
“Oh don’t you worry about it.” Miteru smiled as she brought them closer to her face, “Of course, I will certainly send one of my 12 Pillars to help you manage Orrei after we’re all done with reconstruction.”
“Y-You’re truly going to help?” Kajex stammered, his tail unable to stop wagging behind him.
“It’s my job as arceus,” Miteru replied, her smile glowing brighter, “I refuse to let even one city crumble when I can help.”
“Th-Thank you,” the two remarked in unison, feeling like they were finally freed from their pasts for good. However, it was time for her to finally realize her own sins involving the entire Ragnarok situation.
“But enough about all of that,” Miteru continued in a more serious tone, “Tell me everything he did I was unbeknownst to even with my omnipotence. I intend to repent for all of those sins due to my own lapse in judgment over him. He’s my most grievous sin.” Kajex and Thorya looked right at each other, knowing it was finally time to let the cat out of the bag.
“We’ll start with what he did to my dad,” Kajex began, heart pounding in his chest as they began explaining everything to Miteru with a relieved, but heavy heart. Their hell was finally over…
See you guys soon for the Epilogue to close out Operation Ragnarok
