A commission by the wonderful Isolde

“-And then I was thinking something like this to transition into the next step.”
Ailani crouched down low after a twirl and spread her arms like the wings of a swooping bird. Tensed to spring forward she paused and turned to watch as Kaha’i stepped out onto the sand beside her and performed a near-identical movement.
“I agree,” said Kaha’i with a smile. “But adequate as it is, that's not the balance of a festival victor. Shift forward more and adjust your feet like this.”
“Thanks again for helping me refine my Sky Festival dance, Grandma. I'm so sorry to keep you out all day for this.”
As Ailani repeated the last steps to refine her movements, Kaha’i turned to the setting sun as the sounds of a party in the village drifted down the slope of the island behind them.
“It’s no trouble at all, Ailani. But we should take a break tonight for your sake. As out of practice as you seem to be from your long voyage-”
“-I’m going to be hurting tomorrow. You're right, a break sounds great. Just one more quick run through!”
