Carris is a born and bred hard worker. Originally a miner from the labour caste of her species, when she was exiled from the Rotharii Empire, she didn't know what she would do. She started with what she knew, mining. She'd go out with mining crews into the asteroid field and get her pay harvesting the giant space rocks, but over time she learned something else was out in the field. Derelicts, floating there just being slowly ground to dust by rocks that slammed their hulls. She was never an engineer, but she wanted to try her hand at picking apart these old ship bones, and so she got work at the salvage yard.
Fast forward several years and here she is, working on her latest haul, recovered from the field with her very own vessel, the Over Mountain. She needs far less tools than most, her specialty designed suit doing wonders for an already incredibly high natural strength, and her trusty modular plasma cutter handling getting the bigger hull plates apart. When a more delicate touch is needed, the hardlight spade on her tail is more than up to the task of separating pesky panels.
Her favourite, and sometimes most difficult, part of the job though, is the stories she finds within the ships she cracks open. Often any bodies have been spaced by decompression events and ground to dust, but she often finds recordings, diaries, and other logs that she likes to keep. She has a catalogue of them at her apartment that she takes great pride in. Among these is a video of her daughter's mother, a confession and a plea to protect the one egg she couldn't bring herself to destroy when the colony vessel was overrun by pirates. That recording is one of her most cherished possessions.
