I was originally gonna go back and redraw the whole thing cleaned up, but I maybe shared it on twitter once and forgot about it after that. All I really did was tweak eye positions in spots, redrew some nostrils, added a little fuzz or shirt rips and text. It's still very messy compared to what it could be.
Most non major holidays aren't that thought out. Like walk your dog day, ice cream day, raccoon day. All it really takes is someone proposing something is celebrated on a day on facebook and getting enough people to go along with it that it becomes a thing. There's an "appreciation day" for literally anything you can think of these days. The date itself is arbitrary, like an anniversary of the first time someone said "let's do this starting now". Why is Pizza appreciation day February 9th? Cause someone said so and it stuck.
