Wanted to try my hand as making an Era 5/2023 concept of Shelby! Used Furblet art as a reference and the colours are based off the Lilac and Melon Ball Shelby.
Design notes/ideas:
- Grumpy but still sweet-at-heart personality; takes a little bit to warm up to you. Think Grumpy Bear, Branch, etc.
- Teaches anger management through breathing techniques that sync with the lights on its Tennies, grounding mechanisms, meditation, and mindfulness.
- Teaches importance of respecting consent and boundaries of others as well as teaching kids to set their own; Shelby will let you know if it feels overstimulated from touch, play, or not in the mood for a certain actives such as dancing or taking selfies.
- Continuing to pester (adult) Shelby will result in it closing its shell and saying things like "Shelby stressed. Shelby need a moment.", "Shelby getting angry. Shaaah gonna take minute to cool down.", "Shelby needs alone time. Can oo-nye reees not touch shell?", etc. to teach kids the importance to taking a moment to calm down to get your feelings under control when overwhelmed.
- Speaks English, Furbish, and Shelbish (possible chance to expand on the Shelbish language)
- Slightly lower, gruffer voices than Furby's
- Does knock-knock jokes instead of fortune telling like Furby does.
- Antenna, or "Tennies" glow like how the ears of Furby's glow.
- Heart gem that Furby's have is replaced by a shell gem (or possibly pearl) on Shelby's
- Shelby will "dance" by opening and closing its shell, while Furby dances by moving its body with its feet
- Thin layer of fabric over "arms" rather than flocking to avoid peeling, chipped, or worn flocking.
- Has "tummy" sensor between front arms, tongue sensor, shell gem/pearl sensor, tennies base/mane (aka back) sensor, tilt sensor, sound sensor/microphone.
- Can interact with Furby, Furblets, other Shelby's, and Shelbets.
- More "masculine" colours/male-based marketing to encourage boys to care for themselves, their mental health, and their emotions since cis male mental health care is still severely under normalized.
