Commission for my friend Alec Foisy on Bluesky - more character designs for his cartoony horror series that he's decided to name 'Animated Dreams' - this is based on the world that Koko is from - besides Koko the other characters here USED to be human, but upon leaving their book and entering the abstract void, the human characters transform into non-human creatures. 👀

Koko is next to her original owner Beatrice - she is an adventurous and imaginative girl who is tired of having to follow her strict and overbearing father's rules, so when she discovers a fairy ring portal in the yard that leads to the abstract void outside her storybook world, she takes the opportunity to leave and join Ody and Hillary on their adventure, bringing her favorite stuffed toy Koko with her. After Bea transforms into a cartoon, she is surprised to see Koko come to life, AND to see herself sprout wings and antennae, essentially turning into a humanoid bee girl as a throwback to those old cartoon insects that were just tiny humans with wings and antennae.

And on the other side we have -
Lord Terrence, Beatrice's strict and overbearing father, who is a rich aristocrat with a fancy mansion. After his daughter disappears, he leaves the book to chase after her, transforming from a stuffy but well-meaning father figure to a mustache-twirling Dastardly Whiplash-type villain with a tengu theme.

Captain Selk - Lord Terrence's bumbling but good-hearted assistant, he's a former sea captain who acts as a more down-to-earth foil to his hot-tempered master. Selk speaks with an Irish accent, has a bushy mustache and still wears his captain cap and jacket. Selk follows Terrence out into the abstract void, and basically acts as the Mr. Smee to Terrence's Captain Hook, transforming into an anthropomorphic walrus.
