I like to think that just before Sylveon got them, another pokemon jumped in and lapped them up.
Thats when that pokemon's trainer would show up and Sylveon would nudge them into the flower, causing them to sniff it, sneeze and shrink, eating them before the other pokemon could stop them.

Damn, that's an extra adorable Sylv, and a great scene. Gotta hope that plant spreads, it's way more convenient than Dynamaxing!
But since I think about the potentially horrifying side of Pokémon too much... Every trainer is trusting their supernaturally powerful pets with their life anyway, they really wouldn't be that much more dangerous if you were bite size.
