I've had these drawings of Max's mom sitting in the Wips for several years now because she's always been a crucial part of the story in her own way.
Jaqui Taures was the middle child of 5 (older brother, older sister, younger sister, younger brother), with two happy parents. Compared to the rest of her family, she is the grump, with a very "what ever" response to everything. She was 12 when the Big Bang shock wave took out the neighborhood and her apartment home collapsed. She remembers waking up in a make shift hospital, and the rest of her family wasn't around. Everything was so chaotic, she just had to shrug it off until she found a safe space. She eventually was hit with the realization of how her entire family was dead several years later, but dissociation is a powerful mental tool and kept pushing onward.
She was assisted through her youth by a mafia esc group known as the Domino family, so while they served as a replacement for her missing family, she couldn't stay with them long. Her parents taught her that when the Dominos fall, they take everyone else out with them. Her older siblings had made connections with them in the past and it was ruining her family dynamic at the time. So when was pregnant with Max, she ran away from the Towers (a city made up of makeshift housing) to the countryside, Seacrest Village, so that he wouldn't be turned into one of their god fearing grunts.
Jaqui didn't have a problem becoming a prostitute, because she certainly loves sex, and getting paid for it helps. Max was conceived by one of her special suitors, paid for with a rifle with another girl's name on it, and she admits (in private) that she intended to black mail him with the child. That didn't work out as planned, and she loved Max too much to want that to use him like that. There's no time to go into everything, but Max knows the truth about his father before he becomes the Knight. They are the last two little pieces of the Taures family in this world and they made it work for each other.
Jaqui exists in the story because of how Aladdin was originally going to have a mother figure that drives his motivations. And equally how video game Mothers play a big role in their stories, even if they just stay in one location back at home. Jaqui's role as a parent isn't supposed to be perfect and she's generally flawed, but in their own universe, Max is made fun of for being a Mama's boy. As a joke, they're supposed to look the same, which is why putting make up on is the only switch between man and woman for either of them.

She still sleeps around for money, which does cause drama, but her main profession, on paper, is she's a seamstress. She makes the clothes she wares and all of Max's clothes. Max shrugs off anyone trying to talk to him about his mother's private job, and will joke along with it. What Jaqui says is that some people just need to be held and loved, one hour at a time, and you can be that person for them. She made sure Max wasn't accounted for, meaning he wasn't really apart of the social credit system until he was 16, when he signed up himself for the Knighthood Trials.
Most other kids his age were taken away from their parents, so he has much appreciation for his unique upbringing. If she was going to have a kid, she didn't want them taking him away from her, and every day she worries that being the Knight is a death sentence. Max will call her just to check up on things, and promises to make her a home in the castle when he 'wins'. Guess I covered all of it, thanks for reading. Let me know what you think.
