The "Uma" - In order to survive after their failed colony project, they were forced to give up their spaceship and be turned into weak, vulnerable creatures that run on electricity and recieve instructions through antennae directly into their brains. They are allowed to stay together and maintain aspects of their culture, because they're the only ones who can fly the ship.
