So to start off MerMay I decided to go with the character I immediately think of when I think of mermaids, and who was probably the first mermaid that many of us saw- Ariel from The Little Mermaid (The animated version because I haven't seen the live action version). Despite where she dwells Ariel ironically isn't all that deep of a character, but I actually enjoy her simplicity, she's fascinated with humans and gathers a collection of things from the surface that she can only guess the purpose of. Ariel falls for a human man named Eric and makes a deal with a sea witch to trade her voice for a pair of human legs, and as a result Ariel has to get a kiss from Eric before an allotted time without being able to say a word to him (I think the film was released before sign language was a common thing, so this was a big deal). Ariel is also a party member in the first kingdom hearts game, making her the first disney princess you fight alongside, even if Atlantis got turned to a big rhythm game in the sequel, still despite the rough patches in her history, Ariel is still one of my favorite disney princesses, so it's only fitting that I start May off with this little mermaid.
