Couldn't help it. When I told Lady Yuki-san I was already getting ideas for a sequel to "The Rescuers that follow", I really got ideas. Somewhat spoilerific, however. We see what becomes of Clary and Dimitri by the end of the first movie. Although, I guess you could still speculate.
At any rate, this sequel was going to involve tragedy and I mean a serious tragedy that hits pretty hard. The idea came in the form of a "what if?" I thought back to the first movie where little Penny revealed that she was rescued by two little mice and that she could indeed talk to these mice. The "Down under" reinforces this. So, what if the wrong people found out about the Rescue Aid Society and wanted to put a stop to it? The idea grew from there. Apart from the Society needing to replenish their members, what if they were attacked with considerable loss? What if they had to rescue one of their own? What if they had to go on the run and hide out from an unknown force?
This concept also calls back to my initial idea for the first story, wherein Clary was teamed up with Jake's grandson. For some reason, that wasn't working for me. Hence, the creation of Dimitri. Anyway, the young boomerang wielding kangaroo mouse is Tristan (named after Jake's voice actor). I wanted it to be evident this mouse was related, but I also wanted to differentiate him just enough from Jake so that he wouldn't be a younger carbon copy. Oh yeah. This mouse actually uses his boomerangs (two).
Considering how much structure I have for this supposed sequel, I might just start writing it. It's been fun toying around with the different ideas and further fleshing out characters.
