Applebloom, much like Applejack, was ready for anything as an adult pony. She's been able to prepare in Granny Smith's retirement and may not have Big Mac's strength but she's the craftiest of the Apples. Applebloom found a liking to euthanasia early into the virus. Even before it was known as The Twinkling Virus, she was pointing out little details with the CMC. Her first kill is a pony that is sneaking up on her big sister. While AJ reassures Applebloom that she did what she had to, AB realizes she doesn't feel bad at all for killing the pony.

It was actually kind of fun. The rush of everypony admiring her bravery and how she gets to drag the bodies and form a wall with them while everyone says she's brave really goes to her head. Applebloom decides then and there she will talk to Pinkie Pie, who is the second pony to find out and warn everypony else. Pinkie Pie also has been known to have killed a pony once or twice and seemed to be a bit odd about it. It's there she learns that it's an instinct long repressed by pony kind. Ancient herds would kill predators and enemies or buck the jaws off wolves to assert their herds. Nowadays the act of killing is only known to be performed by alicorns, but once, long ago, it was done for every reason possible.

Even to stop a solar eclipse.

Enthralled, Applebloom reads up on the ancient ways and finds all sorts of traps. Her skill with building has not left her. She designs rope traps that behead invaders and pull them across long spanses of the farm until they slam into trees. Her skill set becomes a boon for the family and earns her Granny Smith's favoritism. The only one who knows her secrets is Pinkie Pie who everyone respects too much to question twice. It is Fluttershy who helps AB come down when her emotions rage too hard, being her in-law and also a mercy killer and funeral planner.
