I spent about 48 hours on this, trying to work on practicing backgrounds!

I watched Ringing Bell a little bit ago and, while it lacks a little and I didn't like everything, I really thought it was so intriguing. It's nothing you would expect from Sanrio in 1978 for sure (and the animation is pretty high quality for 1978 too!), and that's what makes me love it more.

One thing I really wish they did in the movie was crack his bell. I think while it is very clearly shown literally, his loss of innocence and how he's hardened being shown metaphorically through the bell would have been such a nice touch.

If you haven't seen the movie and you're a fan of things like The Plague Dogs, Watership Down, etc, I'd say give it a watch! It's a surprisingly dark movie made for children. It's on Archive.org - both the original Japanese version with English subtitles, and an English dub
