Operation Ragnarok Chapter 7: Beginnings of Ends
Alrighty, here we have the second to last main chapter of Operation Ragnarok. Kajex finally confronts Atrimel, but that king has a few tricks up his sleeves
And more skeletons in his closet
Atrimel had just taken a seat in front of the security monitors. Leah and the others had already been bound by rope with no chance of escaping. Thorya continued to try and wriggle free of their restraints, but they refused to budge. Atrimel just wore a smug grin the whole time.
“Ms Alura! Cherry!” Thorya cried out, trying with all their might to loosen the restraints, “Let them go you bastard!” Artimel would merely shrug off such demands, knowing full well that he never had any intent to give either Kajex or Thorya what they wanted.
“Hard to let them go when one supposedly found a weak spot in my Veiler’s design,” Atrimel scoffed as he scowled down towards his hostages for a moment before looking back towards Thorya, “And they make for excellent bait.” Thorya was slowly going from distressed to rage filled with Atrimel’s actions, a vicious glare forming across the prince’s face.
“Bait?!” Thorya growled as they clenched their fists, “You’re just viewing people as nothing more than BAIT for a sick and twisted plot that’s gonna blow up in your face?!” Atrimel was unfazed, his stubborn mind set in stone as to what his goal was in the end of all of this, not even considering an ounce of risk.
“It’s all everything is to us,” Atrimel assured Thorya as he crossed his legs as he continued to watch the cameras, “Once we finally have Kajex I can reclaim his sister and move onto the neighboring regions in phase two of Ragnarok.”
“You aren’t getting Kajex and you know it,” Thorya gritted as they tried to catch their breath, “And you aren’t getting me either.”
“Spoken like a true fool,” Atrimel sighed before glancing back up towards the monitors, disappointment quickly turning into a devilish grin as he messed with one of his whiskers. As he said this however, they could see a blue blur on the cameras coming straight for the palace. Kajex was coming.
“And it looks like he’s already almost here,” Atrimel scoffed with a devilish grin as he glanced towards the hostages. Thorya’s blood had already begun to boil.
“A lunatic like you doesn’t deserve Kajex,” Thorya thought as they gritted their teeth, “I don’t know how you did what you did to those three, but I believe in Kajex.” In the meantime Kajex was currently dashing through the streets with Extreme Speed, glancing all around him and making sure no guards were getting ready to strike. He was on edge.
“So far so good,” he mumbled to himself as he began to circle around the outer walls of the palace, “But knowing Atrimel-” As he said that, one of the microchips from before blitzed just in front of him like a bullet. He was quickly being surrounded by Atrimel’s puppets just at the front door.
“If I were any of you I’d start running,” Kajex remarked as his eyes glew light purple once more, summoning both Keyblades to his side. He suddenly went to town on them, deflecting chips flying at him like bullets while repelling anyone that got too close to him, all as if it was second nature to him. He was an army eviscerator.
“Get out of my way!” Kajex exclaimed as he sliced the torsos oof those who got too close to him, “I got people to save!” Kajex dodged what he could and only attacked when he must. He knew that the majority of those he was facing were just puppets held against their whim. He also knew he couldn't be wasting his time.
“I’m done wasting my time on all of you already!” Kajex gritted as he threw the Keyblades to either side of him, the blades spinning through the air like saw blades as a path was cleared for him. He even called the Keyblades back as he got to the front door and let them drag behind him, sparks flying at the speed he was running.
“Just get out of my way!” Kajex exclaimed as he blocked attacks coming at him from behind before he repelled them with kicks using his temporarily enlarged legs. He looked up at the main foyer of the palace, feeling confidence rush through his veins.
“Hopefully I can keep up this pace,” he thought as he deflected a few more chips flying at him from the upper balconies inside. He examined the main room, quickly spotting the entrance to the dungeons.
“Hang on mom,” Kajex thought as a single tear streaked down his face, more guards awaiting him further inside. Atrimel was cackling as he watched the cameras show displays of Kajex’s newfound capabilities. Any hatred birthed from his fight with Kaja turned into pride, knowing that if he got his hands on Kajex, Miteru stood no chance against him.
“Oh yes! YES!!!” Atrimel cackled with glee, “Such raw POWER!!! My army’s being sliced down like blades of grass in a lawn!” Thorya’s heart was pounding in their chest, watching as they already pieced together Atrimel’s plan. He wanted to wear Kajex down so when he finally got there Atrimel could fend him off much easier.
“Come on Kajex hurry,” Thorya mumbled under their breath as they watched Kajex slice his way through the legions of puppets. Atrimel noticed this however, clearly disappointed in their child’s continued hope directed towards what he viewed as a false prophet.
“If I were you I’d give up on him already,” Atrimel scoffed as a frown formed across his face, “He already signed what’s essentially his death warrant.” As he said this however, Leah began to stir from her thrashing earlier, her vision clearing as she began to open her eyes.
“What… just?” Leah grumbled as she looked at the screen. Soon enough, she finally registered the changes in Kajex’s eyes on the camera. Her heart was skipping beat after beat, not knowing what happened to him.
“”K-Kajex…?” she mumbled to herself, tears welling up in her eyes at the sight. Atrimel finally took notice of her awakening as soon as he heard a single sniffle. He glanced behind him with a mix of confidence and disgust towards her.
“You’ve awoken just in time to see your son be reduced to a bloody pulp Leah,” Atrimel scoffed as Kajex dashed through the halls. From his point of view he was running along the walls to evade anyone who tried getting too close to him. Sweat was already pouring down his face as he felt like he was already nearing his limit. He still hadn’t fully healed from his fight with Kaja.
“I gotta try and conserve my strength,” he thought as his heart pounded in his chest and in his ears. Leah was watching as Kajex made subconscious movements to avoid combat. Atrimel rolled his eyes, knowing that Kajex caught onto his plan to a degree.
“Forgot he had developed a bit of a brain in these past 15 years,” Atrimel rolled his eyes as his chin rested in his palm, “No matter. He’s already worn down.” Leah’s eyes went from confused to rage filled in a mere matter of seconds with those words.
“Of course he has a brain!” Leah stammered as her heart rate skipped beat after beat, “And I made sure he had a heart like his father!” Thorya’s heart skipped beats at those very words Leah said. They knew something.
“A weapon doesn’t need a heart,” Atrimel countered with a low growl in his voice. Kajex was in the final hallway. They all watched in horror and anticipation as Kajex dashed his way through the halls at a breakneck pace. No distractions, no detours, nothing in his way anymore.
“ATRIMEEEEEL!!!!” Kajex’s voice echoed from the other side of the door as one of the cameras went out on the monitors. Atrimel was ready for him.
“Welcome Kajex,” Atrimel smirked as the door was ripped from its hinges. Kajex barged through the front door by throwing both Keyblades at it, the blades stuck in the wood as the door clanged to the ground. Kajex’s face and clothes were lightly stained with blood as he began to hyperventilate after using Extreme Speed for so long. His eyes reverted to their normal color as he stood in the entrance, face to face with Atrimel, who stood still high above him.
“Kajex!” Thorya and Leah cried out in unison. Kajex was just relieved to see his mom okay after the threat over the phone.
“Sorry I’m late,” Kajex panted as he wiped the sweat off of his forehead, “Someone decided to play dirty is all.”
“No you’re right on time,” Atrimel smirked as he stood up. Leah and Thorya were darting their gazes towards the two of them, unable to keep their eyes on just one of them.
“You got what you wanted, Atrimel,” Kajex panted as he scoffed up towards the king, clenching his fists tightly, “You got me where you wanted me. Now let them go!” Kajex called the Keyblades back to his grasp. Everyone was shocked to see Kaja’s Keyblade with him as well.
“Did Kaja-” Thorya mumbled under their breath before Atrimel cut them off.
“Indeed you are right where I want you,” Atrimel scoffed as he stood up from his chair, “But unfortunately for you, one of them learned something about my Veiler. I can’t let them go like this now can I?” Thorya was thrashing about, trying to loosen the grip on the restraints as they knew Atrimel planned to kill all of them soon enough.
“Just let them go!” Thorya cried out, tears streaking down their face, “What more do you fucking want from the people of Orrei?!” Those words rattled Atrimel, forcing him to give an answer.
“What more do I want?” Atrimel began as he glared right at Thorya, “I want Orrei, and the entire world, no, UNIVERSE under my beck and call! OUR beck and call Thorya!” Kajex’s eyes sparked light purple again as he threw the Keyblades at Atrimel like saw blades again, the king quickly noticed, his one eye glowing red once again as he caught the blade of the first one and used it to repel the other as if nothing happened.
“Wh-What the-?!” Kajex stammered as he recalled both blades to his hands. He chose to ignore what he saw for a brief moment, now dashing up towards the king as he dismissed the Keyblades. He leaped into the air in front of Atrimel and tried to land a Close Combat, but Atrimel caught both fists before he could land a single punch.
“You really think you could hit me like that?” Atrimel grinned as his eye glew an even brighter red before Kajex. Kajex tried to ignore the glow as Atrimel threw him back to where the lucario started.
“I’m gonna get you eventually!” Kajex cried out as he leapt back towards Atrimel, trying to do a spinning kick into the king’s side with an enlarged leg, but Atrimel already saw through it before it even began.
“I don’t think you are when you’re so pitifully weak,” Atrimel smirked as he blocked and caught Kajex’s leg. The king’s eye glew brighter and brighter for another moment, almost like a star now before the glow faded away. Kajex knew it wasn’t some illusion or trick of the light. It was a real change in eye color.
“Y-Your eye is-” Kajex stammered before Atrimel tightened his grip, cracking the bones in Kajex’s fingers like twigs, forcing the lucario to cry in pain.
“I was wondering when someone would FINALLY notice,” Atrimel began with a toothy grin before kicking Kajex back down to the floor by the door with supernatural force, “You thought our experiments ended when I was forced to give you up?” Kajex skidded across the floor like a stone being skipped across the water. They all looked at the king in horror as he uttered those words.
“H-Huh?!” the other three stammered in unison as they were taken aback by the revelation.
“We had more than enough DNA samples to try extracting your mutated genetics for personal use,” Atrimel smirked as he took advantage of the moment of fear that paralyzed Kajex, “After our first failed attempt at fully implementing the gene, we took out the parts related to what I wanted.” Kajex gritted his teeth and dashed towards Atrimel at top speed as his bones healed, the king shrugging off the blow as Kajex tried an aerial attack. He kicked Kajex square in the gut and sent him flying straight into the wall, making the lucario cough up more of his blood.
“If I were you I’d let me finish worm,” Atrimel glared as she brushed some dust off of his cape. Kajex crashed into the ground, his whole body feeling weak, “It’s rude to interrupt.”
“Wh-What the hell?” Kajex coughed as he tried to get back on his feet, his vision already blurring a little.
“As I was saying,” Atrimel scoffed as he focused his eye on the lucario, “We isolated the genes pertaining to that unmatched strength of yours. Then in turn… we reconstructed my own DNA with it.” Leah and Thorya were appalled and disgusted by this. Atrimel had similar capabilities to Kajex.
“You used him to STILL give you more power?!” Thorya cried out in pure rage, “Is that all his life ever HAS been for you?!”
“I couldn’t extract the Dynamax genes from him as they were why the first experiment failed,” Atrimel continued as if Thorya didn't give him any backlash, “Although one gene I wanted to test if its transfer was successful was… the healing factor.” Leah’s heart sank at this next point.
“You didn’t-” Leah began in horror as Kajex finally got back on his feet.
“It was a near success,” Atrimel scoffed as his blank eye stared right at Thorya, “After all, I know you’ve been wondering how I lost my eye.” Thorya and Leah finally pieced together when it all began. Fear began to rush through their veins moreso than blood.
“You gave up your eye for an experiment of your own?!” Leah cried out in pure rage as she struggled to break free.
“I still remember my exact words as to why I chose my eye,” Atrimel chuckled before it turned into a cackle, “I can’t walk without a leg! I can’t fight without an arm! However, I can see without an eye!” Atrimel was devolving into the lunatic he clearly was underneath his regal facade. It was making Kajex sick to his stomach.
“Now I know you’re even more far gone than I already thought,” Kajex panted as he processed the full story, “Once Miteru gets here you’re not gonna see the end of her wrath.” Atrimel glared towards Kajex with pure hatred at words such as that. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
“Arceus? A woman?” Atrimel gritted as his eye appeared to glow with red fire, “Why am I not surprised a weakling deity like that is female?” Leah gritted her teeth as she wiggled and struggled to try and break free. Thorya tried to break free once more to no avail.
“At least she has a heart!” Kajex cried out as he dashed towards Atrimel with an enlarged fist, “And a will to make up for her mistakes!” The king however, caught it with a single palm, his claws slicing through Kajex’s finger before sending him flying into the monitors along the wall, causing one to explode and pump Kajex full of volts.
“You don’t need a heart when you have power like me,” Atrimel scoffed as he once again looked down at Kajex, “Or you for that matter.” It was at this moment Thorya finally lost control of their anger. They couldn’t keep a lid on their pent up emotions any longer.
“Just shut up already!” Thorya cried out as they felt one of their restraints loosen a bit, “I choose to have a heart because I believe in justice for everyone! Nobody deserves what you did to the Aluras, or other families born into poverty because you keep blowing all funding into harebrained schemes like this whole stupid Ragnarok! I want a world where we can all live our lives to the happiest, not under some totalitarian dictatorship like you!” Now Atrimel was flaring up with pure anger directed at Thorya.
“MY WORLD IS THE ONLY WORLD FOR US!!!” Atrimel growled as he tore Thorya from their restraints by their robotic arm, “Our ancestors left us where we are on the hierarchy when we were going to become one of the 12 Pillars! They CHOSE to leave us as such meager entities in a world where the weakling arceus and her real 12 Pillars frolic around without reminding these peasants why THEY’RE in charge!” Thorya jumped a bit, trying to break free of Atrimel’s grasp to no avail.
“I don’t care even if we WERE one of the 12 Pillars ya bastard!” Thorya squirmed as they tried to break free, “I want to become the ruler that grandma was, to what mom saw in you before you discarded her like a broken toy when you poisoned her to death!” Kajex looked towards Thorya in fear as they uttered those words.
“H-He even killed his wife?” Kajex sweated, fear finally beginning to set in for himself, seeing and hearing what Atrimel has become.
“All anyone who isn’t a legendary to me is a tool,” Atrimel gritted as he tightened their grip on Thorya’s arm, the metal casing beginning to crack, “Clearly giving you this arm made you soft.” Thorya flailed around, feeling wires in their arm begin to tear like muscle.
“L-Let me go you bastard!” Thorya cried out as tears began to well up in their eyes.
“How about I fix that?” Atrimel gritted with a smug grin. As he said that he tightened his grip until Thorya’s arm was entirely smashed like it was made of pottery, the sudden disconnecting of the nerves forced Thorya to shriek in pain as they fell to the ground in agony, clenching the bits of wiring still connected to the rest of their arm. They were groveling at the king’s feet.
“Thorya!” Leah cried out as the zeraora writhed in their own pain, unable to do anything herself besides watch and cry out to them.
“A weakling like you isn’t worth my time,” Atrimel scoffed as he kicked Thorya into the air at full force, “I’ll subjugate you like this pawn if that’s what it takes!” Thorya collided with the ceiling before they began to descend towards the ground at a rapid pace. Kajex used his powers to enlarge his palm to catch the prince.
“I gotcha Thorya!” Kajex exclaimed as Thorya landed in his palm. He slowly shrank it down to size until Thorya landed on the ground gently, still clinging to the remnants of their arm.
“You’re sick Atrimel!” Leah cried out as they watched Thorya continue to suffer, “To your own child?!”
“I do what I must to get my son to see the light,” Atrimel countered as he fixed his cape some more. Kajex fumbled a bit as he stood beside Thorya, the prince still wiping away their tears. Kajex looked down at Thorya, knowing they were both severely handicapped and hardly able to keep this up.
“Motherfucker…” Thorya gritted as their tears fell to the floor. Leah couldn’t help but to let her parental instincts kick in.
“Run Thorya!” Leah cried out as she wriggled in her restraints, “You’re hurt! Go see Lilith!”
“I can’t run,” Thorya mumbled to themselves as they tightly clung to their arm. Kajex glanced back at Thorya, knowing his mom was right that Thorya should get out of there while they still could.
“I’ll get him Thorya,” Kajex began as he fumbled forward with confidence, “You just take it easy and hur-” Torya’s eyes went from anguished to determined in a single heartbeat.
“I’m done running from him,” Thorya bleakly replied as they stood up and let go of their arm, “He’s gotten away from everything for far too long.” Atrimel looked down at their child in disgust as Thorya began to stand up for themselves.
“You use innocent lives for your own gain,” Thorya began as they gritted their teeth, “You've even sacrificed hundreds, probably thousands already just to get this far in this stupid scheme. You’re so full of yourself you don’t even use my right pronouns!” Atrimel glared down towards Thorya as they fumbled towards them.
“You’re a stain on the Orreian royal family bloodline!” Thorya shouted as they felt adrenaline rush through their veins, “You’re nothing more than a narcissistic lunatic and a bigot!” Atrimel clenched his fist, trying to compose himself a tad.
“I do what I must for the good of the worl-” Atrimel began before they got cut off.
“Don’t give me that shit,” Thorya replied as confidence washed over them, “I know your bloodthirst didn’t start with mom either.” Kajex and Leah were more confused than ever whereas Atrimel’s foul glare turned more and more malicious. Atrimel knew exactly what Thorya was going to reveal.
“You did go snooping in my study then,” Atrimel scoffed as their eye flared up once more in disgust, “I should’ve realized it when my diaries were misplaced a tad.”
“All of this started with one stupid idea… when you… when you…” Thorya began as tears streaked down their face like waterfalls as one single page reformed in their head in vivid detail, “... WHEN YOU MURDERED ISAIAH ALURA!!!” Kajex looked down at Thorya in confusion. He didn’t know what that was at first, only knowing the shared last name.
“Who is-” Kajex mumbled before a look of pure shock and horror permeated through his body when a single idea behind the identity formed in his head. He shakily turned his gaze towards his mother, her eyes hollow and body quivering in fear. He realized it all then and there who that was. That was his father.
