Wanted to do a bit of random backgroundy practice stuff, as I do now and then. So I hopped on to google, typed something in and grabbed one of the first pictures I found, and started painting. I don't paint backgrounds from photos often enough, it's something I really need to stat doing now and then if I ever want to stop sucking so hard at them.
So, after a half hour/hour or so, this is what I ended up with. Pretty cool, pretty cool! I scanned it in quickly, becuse I had a feeling the next step was going to be tricky.
I then attempted to paint in an aurora, and fucked it up massively. xD I made the mistake of waiting until last to do that, instead of working it into the sky as I was laying it down fresh, so the paint could blend in smoothly. As it was, the background was entirely dry, and the new stuff just couldn't seem to get smooth. Well, this is how we learn I suppose. A sad ending, but a little experience gained.
Here's the picture I was using roughly as a reference, for creditation purposes.

Well, I'm starting to think I'd actually like to turn some form of arting into a career in the future if that's at all possible, but at the moment I'm just way too inconsistant. Sometimes I can do decently, sometimes I fail miserably. I don't have enough flexibility yet for anything serious, but I guess I could work on that for now. x3
You don't suck at backgrounds. You're bomb at them. I like this. I think you could do well doing landscape paintings. Something to branch out to, if you want to hit an audience other than furries (though many furries still do enjoy this kind of thing). Your landscapes are pretty, so there!
Right away this song went through my head... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubeVUnGQOIk
This is quite nice. For the snow on the trees, I would recommend watching Bob Ross. That guy is god at painting in general, but I'm sure you could learn certain techniques from him suited to this.
Ou, here's a very quick little video:

Wow, this is very impressive indeed. If it were hanging on a wall, a lot of people would think it was the work of a professional landscape artist... rather than a furry porn artist! ;D I kid, but really, well done. I hate the cold weather, fellow summerwolf here, but this does look awesome. You can feel the swirling cold winds, the way the snow "mists" up the background. Maybe you could try a scene which is a direct opposite next? A dry, cracked, arid land, cactuses... the lot! Anyway, great work as I've come to expect from ya. ^^
Oh, definitely. I'm actually toying with the idea of browsing some of the FA photographers for nice landscapes and giving my hand at painting some of those. If they work out, I'll ask the photographer if I can post it and give a link back to their work, and if I fail miserably than I throw it away and forget about it. x3
However, I'm most frustrated with my character drawing at the moment, so for the foreseeable future it's going to be mostly sketches and character stuff, I think.

Woah, quick reply! That sounds like a great system, even if only for practice. Win-win for you and the photographer both :3
I can see why you're sticking to the character work for now though, considering it's your most common subject. I'm a fan of your art either way, so I'll enjoy the characters while I wait patiently for some more landscapes :D
