Perhaps one of my oldest characters.
Before I got into the whole “furry” fandom, I mostly interacted with books, sci fi and fantasy. Eragon, Artemis Fowl, Harry Potter - And a good helping of games, like STALKER, WoW, Fallout and Oblivion.
My brother and I would spend hours and hours drawing and designing what can only be described as “DnD” in space or apocalyptic settings, before the dawn of the internet (It was there, we just did not have access to it until, like, 1998 or later)
This is Cuaq (Pronounced “Cua”) Who’s a scavenger from one of the Factions Of Gamal, inhabiting the ruined earth. Yes, that’s where my user name comes from.
The F.O.G is a post-apocalyptic continuation of western values and democratic values, including the regions of western and central Europe and most of North America, not totally ravaged by nuclear radiation, or the martian debris.
Martian debris? What happened to Earth?
Well, in the late 2000’s, Earth was doing semi-great and decided to use some new Gravitic manipulation technology to pull Mars into an orbit closer to the Earth, making the effort of terraforming and general transportation easier.
Things were not so easy and the project failed spectacularly. Sabotage? Lack of foresight or just plain bad luck, it’s not currently known how the mega-corporation named SANA-INC failed in this project - They did have a great solution to sell to the many nations and city-states that followed in the panic-ensured national disintegration that occurred while Mars was on a direct collision course. (They sold Shielding technology)
Mars was stopped however, partially, by new advanced weapons of mass destruction, fusion munitions, tectonic charges etc etc, most importantly, Benefactors from an outside Galactic community arrived to dictate terms and provide a tiny assistance. These Aliens had a few demands before Humanity would be allowed to leave the Sol system.
Firstly, only one government would be allowed to represent humanity as a whole. Dis-unity could not be allowed.
Secondly, the Gravitic weapons had to be neutralized by the Benefactors, and no new gravitic weapons of sufficient scale could be produced.
Third, Humanity was not to leave the Sol System, under any circumstance - A web of Archeotech satellites were placed by the Benefactors all around the Sol System, preventing even using telescopes to explore or see outside the system any longer.
Fourth, an observatory was to be placed in orbit of Earth and once every ten years, a probe would be allowed into any city on the planet.
With these terms now enforced by Alien archeo-tech so advanced it appeared nothing less than magical, Earth’s post-war and post-impact were scattered in three major factions, now vying for control of the planet.
F.O.G - The Factions of Gamal.
In the Post-war era, just as the nations of the world were disintegrating yet again with the looming Martian impact soon to arrive - A man named Gamal, managed to use both guile and impeccable leadership to band together people and resources to blanket most of Europe with SANA-Tech shields and as such gained the respect and love of the people who survived. Unfortunately, Gamal did not live through the Martian Impact - But the new Factions of Gamal did.
Supposedly, running a “Fast Response Democracy” to mete out efficient and catch-all solutions with surprising speed and flexibility, hitherto unheard of in any democratic nations in history. Granting each citizen the chance to vote as law is discussed and in many cases, as it is enacted even, able to adapt on the fly.
The F.O.G has the greatest population (At least this is assumed) and fields both traditional armies and special forces drawn from the many talented people of their federation.
F.O.G also occupy the newly formed belt of debris forming a coalescing ring around the Earth, mining and fortifying their new position.
The Ether.
The Ether is a shady collective of people, living almost exclusively underground in large fortified bunkers and tunnels.
The had their start before the Nuclear war, in the brief, but bloody corporate wars that occurred when SANA-INC was forcefully taken over by Core-Tech Group.
This takeover was hilariously short, as SANA-Tech mercenaries, using their own bleeding edge tech, like miniature fusion power packs, allowing for the deployment of mass Power Armored infantry and using energy based weapons, Gauss, Rail and Coil guns, not to mention wave-based implements like Lasers and particle beamers (Plasma). Annihilating the more Traditional Core-Tech Group’s forces.
The Ether sprung from this defeat, going underground and licking their wounds, festering a hatred for the massive SANA Inc.
In this isolation, the Ether doubled down on being scientists. And brute force.
Developing the missing technologies they’d been without at their defeat, and then broadening their fields until they stumbled upon a seemingly innate talent for Gene-manipulation.
This Gene-craft became their back-bone, enhancing soldiers with durability, senses and stealth bordering on absurdity. Though each soldier can have these gene-crafted bodies vary greatly - They usually cannot field a lot at once.
In the modern age, they rely on stealth, Gene-craft and brute force to get things done, springing from tunnels to assault anywhere on the planet.
They’re not always openly hostile with the F.O.G, despite being at war, there are elements in the Ether and F.O.G who can see eye to eye, trading and co-existing together in rare places.
Even shared military operations are sometimes seen to battle the mechanical horrors of the ARLT-PG.
ARLT-PG.
The ARLT-PG is the most mysterious of the Major factions by far.
It’s only recently come to light that there even still are people in control of the many hordes of robotic armies marching across the Asiatic and African Regions of Earth.
There are many things to fear in the wastelands, death by radiation, deadly martian dust that can tear lungs to shreds in minutes - to the mutated wild-life that’ll easily maul your head clean off.
Though nothing seems quite so terrifying as the march of PG-Robots, scouring and engaging anything living with blazing ballistic weaponry and thunderous barrages of grenades and shrapnel that seem to follow them as a cloak.
The PG will launch black-glassed pyramids (Octahedron’s really) - That will impact somewhere not controlled by the PG and start to spew forth legions of robot warriors and servants.
Their Iron City to the north is slowly moving, crawling west towards the F.O.G’s borders and seems to be quite unstoppable.
(Though the newly built G.I.B built in geo-stationary orbit seems to have something to say about that. Giant. Ion. Beam. Cannon.)
Generally, the PG will only launch attacks when they have overwhelming advantages, preferring mostly to remain in their homelands in the Taiga - Though their scouting parties and mobile armies still roam the wastes like a blight.

Oh also there was supposed to be dragons, but I changed my mind on that.
And no furries here either, even though that was in the comic I made.
