Space. Association. Matter. Concept. Possibility. Time. Thought. Will. Energy. All. One.
At the beginning of existence, there was little distinction between these things, and the anentropic entities that dwelled in the dreamlike proto-universe entertained countless variations. In that timeless nothingness before time began, myriad possible histories unfolded, only to be swept away and started anew. Would there be vast empires of elementals on a flat earth? Was history sung into being, constantly torn between the light and the dark? What would fill the expanse between realms? What would be the rules? What would be the limitations?
Finally, they decided and the deliberations ended. The real and the unreal divided and time began. And already there were problems. The first souls came into being too soon, still too connected to their heritage from the proto-universe. Too alien to comfortably reside in reality. Too powerful to ever truly diminish.
Such was the beginning of her existence. She and her terrible brethren, the Great First Ones, the Cardinal Leviathans (as later races hearing tales of their visits would come to know them), might forever be a blight on the universe, bringing ruinous destruction wherever they went. Would a race of transfinitely powerful beings catch up with the infinitely expanding cosmos and snuff out all of its nascent life? Would some form of that life, in all its infinite combinations, arise on some random world with the solution to these cosmic horrors?
...
This is the beginning of my take on an eldritch Cthulhu-esque cosmic horror sort of creature. She is as old as the universe, and gifted with might from before the laws of physics were decided. She stretches through the void, drifting from world to world, always the last thing its inhabitants ever see. Just for death or for some purpose even more fell? Though not limited to any one physical form, she defaults to a colossal bloated arthropod with strands of fell light trailing away, multiple black-hole-like objects trapped within.
The keen-eyed may also notice a speck next to her. That's for scale for later...
