I have a feeling that Gervic attacked not the real Zudrec, but his copy. Does cougar can make a phantom copy as Funny Valentine from Steel Ball Run? And yes, why does it look like this scumbag got our wolf in the groin?

Way too much tricks up his sleeve. But you can see Zudrec's surprise in panel 1 whenh he realizes that Gervic found a very well usable flaw in his defence.

Zudrec is a man with tricks up his sleeve, after all he works for a nation that specializes in subterfudge of the highest degree. But I don't think it will hit (line does not connect so far) Gervic evaded before ZUdrec activated, so possible it graces or totally misses him.

Zudrec probably has a whole bunch of trump card plans and backup equipment available. He's not entirely invincible, but he's not going to be that easily taken down, either.
