"But Kwan," you say, "You're 43 years old, so why did you stop at 30?"
"Because, " I respond, "I was 30-ish when I first done doodled this."
"But Kwan, " you say, "Why did you © 2011?"
"Because, " I respond, "I didn't take it from doodle to actual comic until 3 days ago. Now leave me alone & go back to making your MLP prons."

Imagine being the only scifi anime anthro weirdo in a small country town (2-count-em-two traffic lights, one on either side of the bridge). Now imagine it's the 1980's & there's no internets. I used to describe myself as a lone fan-girl adrift in the sargasso sea of mundane life.
I did watch the 1st episode for 10 minutes & didn't see anything funnier than the usual cartoon hijinx of things falling down. :/
At what point does the show get super-special awesome? I really don't mean to be rude, I'm into some shows that other people think are stupid in the extreme (Iron Chef) -- but if MLP is like Enterprise (2-3 seasons of suck followed by a season of attempts to redeem itself) I'll pass.

Thank goodness I was born in the late 80's, so that by the time I had become a furry, there was at least the internet where you could easily find others... But until I did find the fandom. I was in a similar boat, really, but I used the excuse "I'm a cartoonist, Cartoon animals are used more than humans" or "This is an abstract representation of my inner self, portrayed as an animal"
Ok, at least I wasn't the only one getting comments like that. In my mid teens, I had someone asking me why I was watching a cartoon (Talespin) that had talking animal people in it. Followed up by, 'isn't that a show for children?'
Seems these days, look at how many movies and the likes have anthros in it.

Oh, how I know this. I grew up in a relatively small town and experienced a lot of the "you're too old to be drawing that sort of stuff". They'd get all excited about seeing my sketchbook when they caught me drawing, but then seemed disgusted by pretty animal people T_T; Especially when some of them involved boobs. But... I was just trying to do anatomy
Yep. I got tired of all the people saying "Why draw that? If I could draw, I'd draw flowers & people & that barn over there and..."
I would respond, "So, you'd draw what you'd want to draw, right? Well, *I'm* drawing what *I* want to draw."
They would say, "But that's not what I would draw."
Me: ::facepalm::

Good for you!
One of the first lessons we doodlers need to learn (and probably have to re-learn throughout our lives) is that the minute you start drawing something where people can see it, you're gonna get criticism. You could drawing a freakin' flower or a rainbow, and somebody is going to find fault with it. Which makes drawing to please yourself all the more important.
