Skye is actually capable of being a weather pony, as she can use her right eye to see how to divert or event stop storms and various weather conditions using her unicorn magick. She is ashamed of her eye, though, as very few ponies take to it kindly, so she keeps it covered up. To be fair, though, its only partly true. To leave both eyes open would be paralyzing for her as the two perceptions are startlingly different.

Her father was a famous, or infamous rather, Unicorn pirate known as Blackmane. His navigation skills were unparalleled, thanks to his right, azure eye. His could swap the patch from one eye to his other, and literally see the ocean currents, allowing him to traverse seas no other seafarer could ever dare to cross. His was a wild heart, tamed only by two ponies.
Azure Rose, a fair filly whom Blackmane loved more than any other, except Skye, their daughter. These two fillies are the only ponies to keep Blackmane ashore longer than a single night. He stayed with them for as long as he could, but the sea always called to him, and he would leave, weeks, sometimes even months at a time. He would always return to them, except once.
More time passed than any previous excursion of his, and Skye became worried. Her mother, while still capable of holding her own, was till getting on in age, making long distances difficult to traverse. Skye took her place, and began her trek across Equestria to search for any clues about her father.
