Sherazade had said they would have a fun evening. Abequa wasn't entirely sure just yet. A lot of things were still tormenting her mind. If anything, at least she was awake this time and not at the mercy of her subconscious, she thought, as the two of them headed for the door...
... the door that seemed to contain a distant beat... a rhythmic beat, one that reached through the troubles flooding the Pteryx's mind, and grabbed her right in the curiosity. '... What is that?' she thought to herself.
Next to her, Sherazade noticed her dear friend and sis (as it were) perking up, the blank face she wore replaced with a more inquisitive one, as though she seemed genuinely interested to know where they were. The Stego smiled, resting her hand on Abequa's shoulder and giving her a warm look.
Abequa felt compelled to ask what this place was, but Sherazade's warm stare told her she needn't ask, only that she was about to find out.
The two bouncers at the front granted them access almost instantly, stepping aside to avoid being nudged by them just from them walking by, as even for large scales, Abequa and Sherazade were quite huge. They swung open the doors.
Her beak hung open in surprise as she waddled through the door, squeezing herself through it in the process. She looked all around. Music with a bombastic beat, bright, glowing lights as blue as her feathers, and dinos, large and small, enjoying themselves.
As Abequa stopped to take in her surroundings, Sherazade shuffled in from behind her, also squeezing through the door, though with a little more difficulty. Abequa turned to face her. "What's this place?" she finally asked.
Sherazade giggled as she continued to try and squeeze through the door, having momentarily gotten stuck. "Steppy told me about this joint," she replied. "I'd tell you everything but... I think maybe it's better if I let you discover everything yourself instead of explaining it all." She continued to talk as Abequa grabbed her hand and helped haul her through the door, finally dislodging her. "But, there is one thing I want to show you in particular..."
"Oh...?" Abequa said, tilting her head.
Sherazade only giggled, satisfied that she had grabbed Abequa's curiosity further. Walking past her, she motioned her to follow.
Abequa did so. As they slowly lumbered through the club, she looked all around, from the dancefloors, to the bar, to once again, the number of dinos of differing sizes seemingly having a great time with each other. Large scales helping small scales from one end of the club to another, small scales sitting on the bar counter, small enough for the counter itself to serve as an entire floor, with large scales towering above them just from sitting on the stools normally. But something was different. There was no sense of intimidation from the large towards the small. Only genuine mingling and joking. Abequa was taken aback.
Something else caught her as well. The music, the catchy beat filling her ears, and before she knew it, she was subconsciously swinging her tail side-to-side in sync with the beat. After a moment, she noticed her tail... but she didn't stop it.
Then she saw it...
One of the two dancefloors. It was smaller than the other one, indicating that it was designated for small scales... but if that was the case, why was Sherazade leading her towards it instead of the other one?
Sherazade stopped as Abequa stopped alongside her. "You're probably wondering why I brought you over here."
"Yeah, I am," Abequa said flatly with a raised brow.
"Well, Steppy told me this floor as a cool feature!" Sherazade said. "Apparently this floor is accessible for largies like us, AND smallies!"
"Eh... uh... it is?" Abequa was stunned.
"And before you ask," Sherazade went on, "yes, they have rules. Only two largies are allowed at a time, you have to call the joint beforehand to register access to this floor, which I did, and at least one has to own a smally district access license."
"Huh... that's me then," Abequa admitted. "I guess that makes sense... though uh... they're putting a lot of trust in us if they're allowing that at all."
"Well, they used to not allow it," Sherazade said, "but after other largies kept... err... ignoring that rule, they decided to just allow it with some guidelines, at least, that's what Steppy said."
"Oh... huh..." Abequa said, though she was momentarily suspicious about the fact that this information came from Stefka in particular, but she decided not to worry about it too much for the moment. "... We're still gonna take up a lot of room though. We're pretty big, you know..."
"Well, yeah," Sherazade admitted, "but it's still within the rules! Just uh... watch your step. Now, are you ready to dance? Your backside tells me you are!"
Abequa looked back at her tail, which still hadn't stopped swishing to the beat of the music, even while the two of them were talking. The tail swishing had already begun trying to translate into hip swinging. She then looked at Sherazade. HER hips were swaying a little (notably she was trying not to swish her tail around, for obvious reasons). Abequa looked at this for moment, then at Sherazade's face. Sherazade had a rare, teasing look that seemed to be a mix of "let's have some fun!" and "don't keep me waiting~".
The energy inside of the club already tickled Abequa's metaphorical shell, but to see Sherazade, normally a shy, sensitive girl, energetic for once seemed to awaken something in Pteryx.
As last, Abequa responded. "Well..." she trailed off, but then gave the Stego a rare look of her own... the ends of her toothy beak curling into a smirk.
That was all Sherazade needed to see.
The two huge dino gals began to make their way onto the tiny floor, Abequa quickly whistling down to the small scale dinos already on it to alert them that they were stepping onto it. The small scales really had already noticed them due to their floor-shaking footsteps rattling them while they danced.
Abequa was still shaking her hips and tail even as she stepped onto the illuminated floor (which instantly started cracking from their immense weight that outclassed even most large scales, some of the lights breaking and going dim in the process). Once onto the floor, she felt her hip swaying almost subconsciously begin translate into an actual dance, slowly at first. However, once she noticed Sherazade already getting down, Abequa finally found the will to go ahead and let loose. Swaying her hips, swishing her tail, waving her wings, and simply letting the music take her.
Next to her, Sherazade began to shuffle closer to her, in full swing. As she danced, she tapped Abequa on the shoulder. The entranced Pteryx looked at her. Sherazade didn't speak since the music was too loud, but made a gesture... an exaggerated hip swing in her direction.
It only took a split second for Abequa to understand what the Stego wanted. Obliging, she shuffled closer while staying in rhythm, and started to swing her hips towards her. Closer, and closer, until...
WHUMP!
The two were now clapping their thighs together, synced to the beat, bumping together on each snare drum in the music. Sherazade giggled as they did. Her giggles were mostly drowned out by the music, but Abequa could still tell just looking at her that she was laughing. Abequa couldn't help but chuckle a little herself.
As they continued bumping butts, Abequa could feel any worries or lingering dreams she might've had before stepping into the club going away. Would they go away forever? Probably not, but it felt so nice to not think about them for once, even if for just an evening. The music drowned out those worries, and each bump of the hips reminded her of who enjoyed this with her. She looked to Sherazade with a warm, relaxed smile, as if to tell her that she was genuinely glad Sherazade had brought her here, and happy to be here with her.
Sherazade looked back at her, with a cheerful grin, as if to say she was happy to be able to help her take a load off and dance her troubles away. Another wordless exchange in which they could tell what they meant to say simply by their expressions.
As for the small scales below, they tried their best to enjoy the music just as much as them, though the floor shaking from the occasional tap or stomp of the pair's giant feet as well as the rhythmic booms of the large dinos' hips bumping above them made this... well, difficult...
A follow up to this as well as a callback to this. After Abequa's stressful night, Sherazade decides to cheer her up. Been wanting to flush out the relationship between these two, so here we go.
This was actually doodled at TFF last month, but I'm just now completing it.
Been a while since I did any personal stuff.
Also it's up to you what song is playing while they're dancing, but personally, I was listening to this as I was drawing this, so this is what I'm going with.
I want a dollar for every time I've said "this" in this description.
Enjoy!
