Ha ha, who knows, who knows? But seriously, there were exceptions to the rules among members of different regions who might not follow the "stereotype" of impersonating their legion. I think the Death Guard was no exception, given that it subsequently recruited recruits from a huge number of worlds along its route (to make up for the loss of personnel). So who knows what kind of imprint it might have left inside the legion?
