Introducing Idŏ, Arkai's best friend and favourite choice for outings in his spare time. Once a worker in Nonal's mines run by Arkai's father Daaki, when he was just a child he tried to steal a rune he'd just mined in the hope of selling it to make some money and help his family. Unfortunately, it didn't take long before he was spotted and arrested. Taken directly before Daaki, the latter forced his son to inflict a punishment on the child who was the same age as him, using as an excuse that he had to "prepare to take over the mines" once he was older, and that he had to "get used to making radical decisions." Arkai therefore decided to put Idŏ in the cell of the mining complex, until he could find a suitable punishment for the thief.
But once night fell, knowing the corridors of the mines like the back of his hand, young Arkai snuck back to the cell, keys in hand stolen from his father as he slept. He freed Idŏ, and after a brief exchange, they vowed to meet again one day. Years later, Arkai took advantage of his new position in Girn's government to get Idŏ out of his then difficult situation by having him move to Agapan's capital not far from his own home near the central districts.
Idŏ is an optimistic Takana who is always ready to listen to Arkai talk about his difficulties and the tough choices involved in his role as Governor. He offers Arkai a view of things that he doesn't necessarily possess by showing him nuanced facets of the people he helps to lead in the Senate, and thus supports him in a role that is complicated for him to take on. In his day-to-day life, Idŏ runs a small shop selling a wide range of decorative items: pots, sheets, carpets, crockery, etc. There's something for everyone! Despite the financial security guaranteed by his best friend, he still wants to keep an activity that can prevent him from falling into a life of sloth. if there's one thing he hates above all, it's doing nothing !
I hope you like this character ! I had a lot of fun drawing him and linking his story to Arkai's. You may notice some magical stones hanging around his neck and waist : those are runes. Extracted from Nonal's mines, the most common ones are sold all over Girn and let people who are not mages use a fraction of the Veil's power so they can cast very simple and basic spells. Here, Idŏ posses three runes : a frost rune, a fire rune and a light rune. This may be a lot, but I really hope you enjoy this big lore dump about my world :D

I AGREE!!! Though I do like your concept of them being turned into empty stone husks, a part of me also kinda secretly wishes that some wouldn't be fully "dead," but only fell bliss and coziness!!! I know this might sound silly, but I sometimes can't help but feel bad for some of the victims of the Runes. I also like to imagine a cute character idea where despite being turned to stone, they only fell peace and comfort, and (maybe?) move around sometimes likea Golem (Kinda like where the victim is permanently turned into a stone statue, but also a "slave" where even though they might not be able to feel "pain," they would in a way feel trapped and afraid) I also like to imagine that they would be "punished" my the Master using their dark magic to "freeze" them in place. >:3 That’s just my opinion, though!!! :3
