Custom Capsule Plarail Steampunk Thomas
I got my paws on this lot of 2 Capsule Plarail Thomases. one of which (the one above) had a working motor which I gave to my RWS/book Thomas so he can run. I then put the broken chassis onto the spare Thomas I got the replacement motor from. I was thinking of what to do with this unpowered Thomas, then I got an idea; I'd been into the Steampunk genre as of late and had seen an AWESOME steampunk Thomas by someone else, so I figured "Why not make my own steampunk Thomas?".
I started by removing any decals on him before painting the entire footplate black save for the bufferbeams, which I dry brushed with black to give it a dirty effect and then painted block buffers onto them. Thomas' main body was painted with a blue/black mix with the black bits being brushed with grey before a heavy black dry brushing, which I also added to the top of Thomas behind his funnel and on his bunker to simulate coal dust and soot. I also heavily dry brushed Thomas' face to make it dirty too.
The wheels I was originally going to paint the same as his body before I opted to just paint them black along with the side rods. Final details I added were his number ones, which I did by using a grey paint on a thin brush.
Once this was all sealed in with a coat of matte clear, I glued on a couple gears salvaged from the broken motor. The small one on his bunker is meant to act as something that opens the back of it for coal to be loaded more easily, while the big gear on his cab is meant to act as a flywheel for powering other machinery.
I'm VERY proud of how this Thomas turned out and I'm happy to have something from this genre in my collection.
