I tried to do taxes and dial in a simpler alternate style for future commissions. Both turned out more complicated than I was hoping for… ^^;

Yup >W< Oftentimes I end up paying all my taxes in one big lump at the end of the year (so no refund), but at least that means I wasn't overpaying during the course of the year.
And truuuuuuue! If I use the plushie in the process of making art, then it's probably a business expense ;3

I have done that paperwork multiple times. Sometimes I wonder if insane people actually crafted those forms. I spent eight hours filling out a capital gains tax form for my mother. Then I plugged the numbers in a 1040 long form, and finally into the 1040EZ form. I got the same answer EVERY time, why did I have to waster eight hours of my life filling out this thing when I could have been done in fifteen minutes!?!
Fun fact: Much like many things that are wrong in America, it's done differently and better in other countries. In many other first-world countries, the tax service sends you their estimated tax bill for you, and you can choose to either confirm that or do it yourself. But in America the tax-prep companies do a lot of lobbying to make sure that this does not come to pass (and threaten their business). The reason the forms are insane is that Intuit and HR Block have recruited politicians to make sure they stay that way. Here's a news story about that.
Oh yeah, the IRS has guidance on how to declare bribes on your income too haha~
