The problem is feeding strays causes them to breed like rats. We started out with 3 strays coming to our yard begging for food. But when we fed them it quickly turned into 26 with all their offspring.
It balloons out of control pretty quick. Someone has recently been feeding cats behind our new house in the alley, so we have dozens of cats constantly back there and they don't even live in the neighborhood. Then they start tearing up our garbage and causing destruction.

Maybe look into a local TNR group to help? Strays can be an issue; MORE of an issue if they are not spayed/neutered! ;-; its sad, I wish there was more (maybe gvt funded?) organizations that helped with this issue. Its very sad. I foster kittens for the local shelter and its just depressing every year.
Yeah that's a serious problem and I've seen it a lot as well. I my old town they would catch and release. Neutering / spaying. The city I live now basically does nothing at all. They will not collect cats, they will not fix them, they just ignore the problem. It's down to community charity groups using donations to spay and neuter.
That's all I can do. I have a couple of stray cats in the area, possibly living under my workshop, so I've been leaving food out for them at times. One is wary but friendly while the other runs if I'm nearby. Life is tough enough as it is...I can give them a square meal now and then.
