While not a specific reference, I figure part of the inspiration here was the practice of wives sending private shots of themselves to their husbands fighting overseas during WW2. A significant portion of the backstory for Cartoon Cuties is built from this practice. Taking such shots usually requires help from a relative or extremely good friend, but there are ways of doing it solo, like this she-wolf is demonstrating. There's something sweet about the theme that speaks to me. I've always thought of myself as a romantic.
