I worked on this one all day today, without stopping. 14 hours, 7 layers, using the watercolour brush in ArtRage. It's a fan painting of Elisabeth Sladen (Sarah Jane Smith), of Doctor Who fame. Ms. Sladen passed away yesterday morning from cancer; she was 63. I love the programme, so figured that I would do something in memory of such a wonderful actress. The two pictures are (inset) Sarah Jane Smith with K-9 (during the 70's run of Doctor Who) and (main) The Doctor (David Tennant) and Sarah Jane Smith saying a fond farewell. I used photos from the BBC website as references.
Sarah Jane: "I always thought that if you died I would feel it somehow. Isn't that silly?"
Doctor: "Oh, I don't know. If that day ever happens, I think the whole universe would shiver."
-- from a conversation between Sarah Jane Smith and the Doctor (played by Matt Smith) in "Death Of The Doctor" - a Sarah Jane Adventures episode.

*smiles* Thank you for your shout, miss... it was very kind of you.
The suggestion was this. It occurred to me that there's another moment in Sarah Jane's life that, another goodbye - the first goodbye, really - is as important as the second one. And I know, I'm no artist, but I thought if you moved everything left a bit and down a smidgen, you could get it in.
It's the scene where she's leaving Tom Baker's doctor, at the end of The Hand of Fear: the Doctor is in the wooden console room, standing at the console, and Sarah is by the door, looking back at the Doctor, who is looking back at her... just a very, very touching scene, for me, and I thought it might look well in that corner.
But as I said... what do I know? I think it's wonderful. *offers hug* Thank you.
