100 Day Art Challenge Day 58 - Ghosts and Reflections
"I had been seeing the ghosts for a few days at that point. A worker passing by the stock room door when I knew I was the only one there, the Ding of a customer entering, but nothing. Once, I turned a corner, and an entire freezer section had been replaced by a selection of vases and candies. A blink later, it was back to normal. But it kept happening. One day, I had closed for the night; I live just upstairs, you know. I was cleaning up for the night, wishing like everyone I had taken a different path. But when I looked into the mirror, it seemed to break. The air itself seemed to break. Parts of it seemed to reflect me; tired, old, balding... But parts of it- it was still a mirror, right? But instead of a burnt out store clerk, it showed a Rabbit. A Woman. A Rabbit woman? My brain kept saying 'It's not you, but it's a mirror, it has to be you.' She looked... happy. A little surprised, but not nearly as tired. The room around her was a pale peach. It was a nice color.. but I could never... I reached out to touch her, saw her paw approaching the mirror, and a moment later it was gone. The mirror whole, the room behind me the same grey as always. I started to cry... I didn't really know why. I felt like I had lost something. Anyways... if you can help with the ghosts.. I'd appreciate it. I don't know if I can take seeing me... Her. Again."
- Interview with Holly H. before her transformation. Subject stressed. Scared. Subject currently stable and happy.
A man looks into a mirror and sees a rabbit woman. I'm pretty happy with this one. I started with the story scene, and wanted to get it on paper, but reflections are always hard, and I'm not great at drawing Humans OR front views.. but here I am... A story about a trans woman realizing things about herself, before she was ready to admit it.
Happy Easter, Happy Trans Day of Visibility, and happy Egg discovery either way :P
