The light behind the critter has a green coloured gel on it (think: fancy cellophane), which gives the fur a bit of a 'rim light', and gives the background a green colour cast.
I used different gels with different suits for a bit of variety - you can see the rest via the flickr link in the Description. :)

Cheers. :)
The room itself had fairly earthy/neutral tones; white ceiling, slate-coloured carpet, earthy brown curtains. All pretty neutral and easily recoloured with the gelled backlight behind the fursuiter.
I might post up a journal/pic somewhere showing how the setup worked, though there really wasn't much to it- two flashes on lightstands, a variety of different gels and two cans of artificial smoke. :)

I would definitely take a look at that setup post, looks rather interesting; stuff like that intrigues me to learn about. I can see what you mean about the character being in front of the light, gives the illusion of the character in a colored room. (While its just a gelled light providing the brilliant color.) Love it!
Hehe, hey...you actually do some pretty nice stuff. Its warranted, trust me.. *^^*
And, yeah. I need to do the same with my own. i actually need to GET gel sheets for the flashes...you've given me some fun ideas to try out. *^^* I've used rim lighting before, but never really colored lights as the rim. It produces a really nice effect when done right.
Hehe. Plus, if you have standard gray/white backdrops...gelling the background lights gives you any color you want. Makes it MUCH easier on the budget, rather than having to spring for a new backdrop for each mood light. *^^*
Can't wait to see your breakdown of the setup! <3 Keep up tha great work!

Well, one neat thing 'borrowed' from Strobist.com - those little sample packs of gel swatches at Your Local Photography Equipment Retailer have swatches which are a tiny bit bigger than the flash head of a 580EX (and much bigger than a 430EX). The swatch packs are usually free, and give you one of every gel you can get. XD
That doesn't work for big studio strobes of course, but it's just fine for critters with little battery-powered hotshoe strobes. :)
