Regthar and Esteban

I believe one of the reasons why Esteban and Regthar get along so well is the existence of a deep sense of empathy between them. Each one, in their own way, had to face a difficult life. Regthar understood the difficulties that Esteban had to confront from childhood. And, at the same time, Esteban deeply empathized with the pain that Regthar harbored in his heart.

When Esteban arrived in Chakona, he was an angry young man with the world, selfish and somber. Nothing mattered to him except himself. However, in that brief time he met and interacted with the old skunktaur Vroeg, his mentality and heart radically transformed. Vroeg thought Esteban was too young to live in perpetual darkness and decided to help him. Little by little, he gained his friendship, to such an extent that the human ended up loving him as he had never loved anyone before. That awakening of love in Esteban's heart allowed him to develop a deep empathy towards Regthar (and Sorah). And the feeling was reciprocated.

That beautiful friendship and complicity between the renzar and the human, their games and jokes, their hugs, their conversations, are a reflection of that immense mutual love that was born between them. Regthar saw in Esteban –in part– his lost son, while Esteban had in Regthar the playful, loving and protective father he had always desired –and needed– and that life had denied him.

Esteban learned to value the paternal role that Regthar now plays in his life. Since then, he consults with him about every important decision. He will do nothing without the consent of his renzar father. And Regthar is happy to occupy that important role in the life of his adopted son.

Creo que una de las razones por las que Esteban y Regthar se llevan tan bien es la existencia de un profundo sentimiento de empatía entre ambos. Cada uno, a su manera, debió enfrentar una vida difícil. Regthar comprendió las dificultades que Esteban tuvo que afrontar desde niño. Y, al mismo tiempo, Esteban empatizó profundamente con el dolor que Regthar albergaba en su corazón.

Cuando Esteban llegó a Chakona, era un joven airado con el mundo, egoísta y sombrío. Nada le importaba excepto él mismo. Sin embargo, en ese breve tiempo que conoció e interactuó con el viejo skunktaur Vroeg, su mentalidad y su corazón se transformaron radicalmente. Vroeg pensó que Esteban era demasiado joven como para vivir en una oscuridad perpetua y decidió ayudarlo. Poco a poco, fue ganando su amistad, hasta tal punto que el humano terminó por amarlo como nunca antes había amado a alguien. Ese despertar del amor en el corazón de Esteban le permitió desarrollar una profunda empatía hacia Regthar (y Sorah). Y el sentimiento fue recíproco.

Esa hermosa amistad y complicidad entre el renzar y el humano, sus juegos y bromas, sus abrazos, sus conversaciones, son el reflejo de ese inmenso amor mutuo que nació entre ambos. Regthar vio en Esteban –en parte– a su hijo perdido, mientras que Esteban tuvo en Regthar al padre juguetón, amoroso y protector que siempre deseó –y necesitó– y que la vida le negó.

Esteban aprendió a valorar el rol paternal que ahora Regthar desempeña en su vida. Desde entonces, consulta con él cada decisión importante. No hará nada sin el consentimiento de su padre renzar. Y Regthar está feliz de ocupar ese importante rol en la vida de su hijo adoptivo.
