On the outside, Michael kept a strong face and perseverance that gained the respect of everyone around. From the young to old, small or tall, his positivity as well as his strength made him a popular officer within the Putnamville Police Department.
But on the inside, he had doubts about being a hero. Strong and kind, yes. But he had days in which both his physical and mental strength was put to the test. One such example was when a person was shot and killed during a robbery gone wrong. Michael was there to help the wounded long enough to call an ambulance, but the person died before they could reach the hospital. Despite being told it was not his fault the person didn't make it, he felt a sense of guilt about not being faster enough to save them.
It was a few nights since the incident and Michael was feeling depressed. Too depressed to even work on the fantasy story he's been writing since he was a teenager. All he could do was sit quietly in front of the television or calmly eat his dinner with Pri. Pri, sensing her beloved was in a deep state, wanted to make him feel better. But, she didn't know what to do.
Later that night, just as they were getting ready for bed, Michael just stood there looking out the window for a while. Pri, thinking that she had to do something, finally asked what's wrong.
"I am not a hero," the sad coyote finally said after a moment of silence.
Pri, hugging him upon hearing the sadden tone of this voice, told him that he is a hero. "Everyone around here loves you. I love you." She held him tighter than before.
"You're my hero."
In that moment, he just looked down and saw those little black hands gripping on his chest. He knew that what she meant and appreciated the gesture. He came to her life to help her, and she was doing the same to him. He calmly put his hands on hers, before turning himself around and embracing her for a short while.
"And you're my hero, Pri."
She smiled, and they both kissed before going to sleep.
Michael may have the stronger body, but Pri has the strongest will and love to save him from his demons.
"I love you."
