Presumably it's a gag in reference to Twin Peaks, something the "Twin Beaks" episode parodies in addition to INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS. Not being familiar with the show myself, that's just a guess.
My own personal theory is that Binkie was responsible for a childhood accident which cost Trudi an eye. It may be one reason Binkie is so abundantly sweet, a carry-over from her trying to make up for her mistake by being golden good.
