Yeah! Trying to broaden the flexibility of drekir to make tool use and manufacture and biomechanics a bit easier. As frankly I kinda finished working on the drekir 4 years ago.
and its mostly to increase the ability to pull more flexibility and strength horizontally allowing for a bit more broad tool usage and creation. As while the drekir biomechanics have been established more or less for 4 years... It's kinda been an answered question
and I wanna expand it to allow for broader tool industries and whatnots and here are some specific and more broad examples.
The first are bows which are rare, but in the canon! Drekir were already able to use particular bows. Namely low poundage (under 40lbs at 20 inches) assymetric bows.
Being able to rotate the body does a few things for an aspiring archer
1) Allows them to move their chest which is the biggest biomechanical issue for archery, frankly their chest is in the way and their arms and shoulders are too far back. So this allows them to adjust their front torso to better line up with a bow which can then be drawn under the torso, poining slightly upward.
2) It also allows them to use their upper front back muscles to help draw the bow via this little tiny bend, drek back muscles are intentionally very strong. It's not gonna make them longbowdrakes anytime soon, but makes pushing that 40lbs at 20 inches plausible with serious physical training.
A human archer tends to, with decades of training cap out around 120lbs, a drek may cap out around 60... with years of physical conditioning. But it makes a 40lb bow at 20 inches more achievable and that is an important number
So while bows are already canonical (if not rare) this makes them a lot more ergonomically viable. Which just helps to add variety to drekir hunting culture and material culture.
Atlatls, Throwing Sticks, Slings, Throwing Spears, Darts, Bows etc. already are in the pool and I think more viable bows are just a nice addition to that
The second are axes and horizontal swings More in general. Drekir woodworking has for a long time been dominated by Adzes more than Axes and that is neat, but that is less to do with the neat advantages adzes have in woodworking and more in that drekir only really had an ok verticle swing. Which is great but also a bit bland.
"Everyone uses adzes, and/or perhaps chisels I guess."
This more or less helps with woodworking. Axes can have more of a place and woodworking culture can have a more diverse toolset. Axes for chopping trees, Adzes for chopping and shaping and dishing out wood, specific crook knives, D adzes, or other specialized tools for more refined work, etc. etc.
It also helps make chisels better as drekir can more effectively hammer a chisel on a horizontal plane and chisels Are very versatile tools
I mean i guess a chisel is just a thick adze blade that you hold in the hand at the end of the day but anywho.
So this helps justify axes more and just more varied and diverse material cultures in tool manufacture
But of course also horizontal swings which helps in a lot of little things.
some of which are of course weapon oriented, It makes horizontal swings better so edged weapons, clubs, and even shields are better.
As drekir aren't restricted to strafing strikes from a dead sprint nor just vertical "horny jail technique" bonks. They have more diagonal and horizontal swings.
For throwing weapons, atlatls, javelins, slings, throwing sticks, etc. they also have an easier time transferring energy from their big power muscles (gud legs) into their throws as they can torque their bodies a bit more. It helps reinforce the already extant lore that drekir are deceptively good at throwing things when given the proper tools.
But it also helps with things you wouldn't think
General ergonomic tasks like butchering, weaving, pottery, flintknapping, and copperworking are now easier. A dreks head is above and in front of their hands which doesn't make something like butchering a large insect impossible, but a bit trickier. This just gives another flex opportunity to center their work more on their left or right flank (their preference or need) to center things under one eye which should make things a bit simpler and allow for more precise work
It also makes their issues of dress not impossible, but also not so extremely restricting.
Drekir will never be able to dress themselves completely, but it does allow a drek to more easily access things that hang on their flanks, or reach things on their thighs, Not sure whether or not they would be able to reach the small of their back between their legs (the big weight bearing part of their body, what makes them a good mule). But it means a drek doesn't need to have all their immediate access stuff hanging from their neck or chest, it can be spread out and less clunky from their neck to a little bit behind their arms.
And perhaps could make more forgiving architecture
Not sure if I like this but it does affect drekir mobility even if just a bit. A drek with a bit of flex would be able to make a somewhat sharper turn and be more agile.
Remember difference of speed vs agility, drekir are fast but they are not agile
But this would make them a bit more agile. I don't think they would be able to turn on a dime like a human can but that 2-3 meter space a drek needs to actually turn around make shrink a little bit to just needing to move 1 meter in a forward turn. It would perhaps make them better at navigating somewhat tighter spaces. Not on the degree of humans, their problems would still exist, but not quite as much
so yeah little ramble
But thats mostly why im suggesting a bittabend
Not canon at this time but in the hypothetical "thinkin bout it" stage
Also don't tell my boss I was doodlin a bit on the job. Don't worry on track with it all is well
