Kimberlian, Celestial Drake of Haat'Tar by
Some info:
Path to ascension may not be linear and Celestial Drake status aren't permanent. Kimberlian learned that hard way, but did that experience changed her? Not exactly, just made more cautious and less overconfident.
With her celestial status was revoked, Kimberlian was cast down, powers and immortality drained from her, becoming a Fallen Celestial. Ashamed and ostracized again, she was exiled to Haat. Just as expected, Fallen Celestials didn't like to show up to mortals, as they could be misunderstood for demons with unpleasant consequences, as Fallen are more vulnerable and far less powerful than demons are. Yet, there are some hidden benefits if person know where to look. For years Kimberlian stayed in the shadows, hiding in the caves and remote swamps, walking out at night to find a game and hunt. It was miserable existence for her, yet she needed to survive and looked for a chance. No matter how long she searched and summoned, no Celestial Dragon answered to her, she was on her own. Kimberlian studied places that could be interested by Celestials, old long-lost libraries that belonged to decimated cults, places of power - sets of stones, shrines and obelisks. One day she got her luck - spotting Dwang, a fellow Celestial Drake, that was returning from his mission. Dwang stopped at old occult site, recharging himself before taking flight to Sanctuary Shard. Providing little explanation, Kimberlian lunged at Dwang, attacking him with claws, trying to cripple wings. Initially confused, Dwang fought back, hitting hard with both his fists and magic. Kimberlian allowed Dwang to win the fight and subdue her with divine chains. Plan was simple - wait for Dwang to deliver her to Sanctuary Shard, then trial at the Council, where she would plead for forgiveness and end of her exile. Plan that got shattered, the moment Kimberlian realised that Dwang don't have enough strength to carry them both, not after long and taxing mission and especially enduring combat with her. Instead Dwang unleashed a loud and lasting enchanted chirp, a special call, sing of distress, summoning angelic sentinels. Under normal circumstances, that would be no different from Dwang brining her in personally. But circumstances weren't normal, Kimberlian sit and looked in horror at the horizon, where dark shadow soared high, approaching. Before call for help could reach Sanctuary Shard, it already reached Noee, demon dragoness and Princess of Pride was arriving with clearly not peaceful intent, having a spies and informants all around, Noee waited for the moment to strike... and got that moment. Seeing approaching demon, Dwang released Kimberlian from divine chains. Opponents just a moments before, now they stood back-to-back against greater enemy. Noee toyed with them, not using powers at all, just making a dive, closing wings and jumping in, lunging, trying to savour the moment, claws and teeth ready.
Noee being overconfident as ever, underestimated some factors, but got a lot of tricks in her sleeve. Kimberlian tried to keep Dwang between her and Noee, while she tried rather cheap trick, attaching severed strings of fate to Noee. Kimberlian tried to take control over Noe's body completely bypassing the mind, yet Noee was resisting, clearly being too powerful for Fallen that got little experience in puppeteering others directly. Yet, Noee got distracted, giving Dwang some opening to land few hits on her, discouraging getting close. Noee was about to cast something foul, but angelic sentinels arrived with weapons drawn, ten of them. Noee looked almost offended but smiled, teasing "Oh, pigeons want to crash my party? Not going to happen, I hate being outnumbered and hate is powerful emotion!" Noee changed her plan, unleashing a swarm of magic missiles, self-homing spheres of demonic energy... no matter how angelic sentinels tried to deflect or avoid them, all ten connected, knocking them unconscious. Noee roared out of pure joy, clearly declaring her dominance, no angelic sentinel could ever hope to match her in combat. But joy was interrupted by other roar, frustration and pain... as Grim Shadow blinked in and stabbed Noee into side with divine blazing claws. Noee lashed out, but hit empty air, Elion's personal executioner blinked away faster that hit connected to him. In anger Princess of Pride unleashed rain of molten metal, covering whole valley with her foul sorcery, while she was unaffected by it. Dwang's celestial protective aura kicked in, draining his already humble energy reserves. Kimberlian cried, as she had to endure, having no means of protecting herself against molten rain. Grim Shadow tried to stab Noee again, just to get intercepted this time, her counterattack almost ripped his chest open, but hardened plates and tough scales held the hit, leaving Grim Shadow wounded, but not taken out. Finally, seeing Noee agitated too much, Grim Shadow made a decision... to pass this fight. He scooped across the battlefield, blinking unconscious angelic sentinels back to Sanctuary Shard. Then Grim Shadow blinked to Dwang, touched him and blinked out, both fleeing the battlefield... leaving Kimberlian alone with Noee, at least for some time...
As Kimberlian was thinking how to bargain for her life with demon Princess, being constantly distracted by agonizing molten rain, weather changed. Storm kicked in, winds risen, disrupting the foul spell. Behind Kimberlian's back two Celestial Dragons landed, Sol and Reeva, essence of the Sun and the Storm. Noee just laughed, unleashing everything she got, new swarms of magic missiles from her fingers, bombarding the valley with inferno comets, even summoning clouds of dancing cursed flames... all causing untold collateral damage and acting as distractions, while Noee tried to make it close and personal, getting into close combat to bite, rend with the claws and unleash fiery breath that could melt scales and bones in its heat. Sol took most of the burden to actually deter Noee, both was bathing each other in flames with little to no effect. While Reeva tried to provide protection for Kimberlian, keeping her covered in lightning shield, as Reeva changed battlefield into her favour, reshaping storm into huge tornado filled with static discharges and few floating lightning orbs. In the right moment, Kimberlian used her puppeteering skills again, halting Noee just for a second, enough for Sol to take a grab and hurl her inside the tornado... Noee just laughed, fading into motes of darkness even before she got hurt... Clearly Princess of Pride didn't grace others with her presence but sent a phantom of herself with delegated powers. Despite all participants survived, valley got ravaged, fires spreading everywhere, cattle and wildlife running for their lives. Reeva soared in the sky gracefully, reshaping tornado into dense clouds, summoning the rain to put out fires. While Kimberlian faced full 'warmth' of being reunited with Sol.
Kimberlian arrived to Sanctuary Shard, not as captured criminal to face the Council, but as Sol's trophy. She found herself confined in the middle of Sol's tower, right inside the treasure room. With wings and limbs held by heavy shackles, made from mix of gold and toughest alloy created on Sanctuary Shard, Kimberlian got little choice but to submit. Muzzled to prevent speaking, Fallen Celestial got boredom of laying down on the pile of gold, waiting for Sol to provide her nutrient or lecture her, occasionally both. Any attempts to speak with Sol was met with his anger and longer periods of being muzzled. She escaped threat of Noee and exile... just to be locked away in gilded cage she can't escape. When Celestial Dragon of the Sun wasn't busy with his tasks and duties, he was visiting the treasure room and Kimberlian. Sol's favourite kind of activity was holding Kimberlian in his embrace and staring right into her eyes, searching for clues of repentance or remorse. One day Sol saw what he wanted and removed the muzzle, allowing her to actually speak. Kimberlian pleaded to allow her returning to exile. But Sol got another idea, released from the shackles, Kimberlian was delivered to the training centre of angelic sentinels.
Kimberlian was collared with inscription 'practice target,' she took unwilling part in training of angelic sentinels through simulated scenarios. Constantly chased while 'escaping' from prison or 'ritual site', fleeing the 'crime scene' and 'getting caught' in foul act. Fallen Celestial provided some challenge, especially since Kimberlian didn't want to be restrained again, just to sit and wait as angelic sentinels congratulate each other and evaluate their performance. What they didn't accounted - she was learning too. Just in few months angelic sentinels started to notice that each practise scenario is getting increasingly difficult, but scenarios wasn't changed, it's Kimberlian resisted being detained more actively. While being prohibited from causing any permanent harm to angelic sentinels, Kimberlian was still having an option to knock them out with headbutt or precise strike of her fist, she didn't hesitate to use her fallen puppeteer skills too. It was a matter of time before it happened - during the chase she has ambushed and taken out two squads of five angelic sentinels each, effectively winning the scenario for a side... that was never intended to win. Kimberlian got satisfaction but feared that she will be punished. Instead, she earned respect and was transferred from the cage in the basement to actual apartment meant for angelic sentinel in training, even got a salary assigned. From the game to be hunted, she became an asset, a challenge. Her punishment transformed into something else, an opportunity to grow and become useful. Scenarios changed, evolved as both sides was making progress and adapting to them.
Soon Kimberlian found herself pinned against not only angelic sentinels, but Celestial Drakes too. Usually one, but sometimes even a pair of them. She became the most respected 'villain' in training centre. And Kimberlian tried to hold her standards high. Her powers grown, slowly turning into mastery over the shadows, using them to hide, to weave illusions, to distract and obstruct sight. In one scenario she was storming the gates of 'Elion's palace', a decoration created underground, in other she was breaching the throne room, usurping the throne. Kimberlian become a master at distracting and confusing her opponents, possibly she was the only being on Sacturary Shard to actually shout "Glory to the Fallen!" or "False God of Fading light won't save you pigeons!" and get away with that without any consequences. She played a great villain, scary and intimidating, not backing down until the end. Sometimes that resulted in both sides mending their wounds after the training scenario. As years passed, Kimberlian got less practicing and more free time, her training resulted in severe decrease of casualties in the ranks of angelic sentinels, newly ascended Celestial Drakes preformed far better too. Kimberlian became popular, not just as cardboard villain, but as mentor, explaining others their mistakes. Soon she was allowed to walk and fly around Sanctuary Shard, even if under supervision. Later even managed to get herself a new assignment - a head of penance department in Elion's palace, overseeing 'sinners', penitent mortals on the path to redemption.
After a long decades of being beneficial for Sanctuary Shard, Kimberlian arranged a special event. Cashing all her favours and asking friends, with help of Celestial Dragons, Reeva, Sol and even Noctua, Kimberlian made a distraction and actually sneaked into the Elion's throne room. She wanted to shout something foolish but knowing that Sol and Reeva are just behind the doors, Kimberlian fell to her knees and asked "Lord Elion, God of Light and Creation, please forgive me for this intrusion. I wanted to speak to you, I have changed..." Audience lasted for several hours. But as Kimberlian finally walked out through the doors with the scroll in her hand... she was no longer Fallen, but fully restored Celestial Drake, ascended again, with powers and immortality. Sol took her under his wing, both happy and worried. Scroll was the most curious thing... Kimberlian was restored, but placed on probation, she wondered "Great Sol, what do you think, how Elion managed to include so many limitations and restrictions in a single scroll?".
