A shill shrew steals the teeniest of coins from the pups and escapes through a portal, Kappa gives chance. But, it was worth it because he ended up with a bag full of chocolate coins in exchange. It is the same bag of chocolate that Chi and Omega later thought was gold.

If you are willing to jump into a mysterious portal in pursuit of money that would make you kinda greedy. And she likes to trap mortals in a sea of wealth they will never spend. But kids are dumb so they don't count.

I see. She was using her ability to summon money to try and lure a mortal to her to make a deal but kids are more impulse than thought so Kappa was like hey that's mine give it back as opposed to don't steal my money or something like that right? Kappa probably will have jumped in there after their favorite toy even if it was just the bouncy ball.

Yeah, she makes deals that will often turn you into a shill shrew if you don't fulfill them in time. Kappa would have just chased the shrew for stealing anything. Also, kids have the strange power to negate any deal they make with her while keeping all the rewards and none of the consequence.
