I was very lucky to be able to see the 2017 total solar eclipse. I was planning on seeing the one on April 8 2024 but life and work has gotten in the way =P, so I am taking comfort in looking at the photos from that previous one :). It was awesome, if any of you can get out to go see I highly recommend it, just don't look at the sun without solar glasses until it is total, then you can look at it safely and see the corona with your own eyes, then as the sun starts to peek out from the lunar mountains (see my other pic) take a last look and put on your protective glasses again. And if you are just outside of the path of totality DO go to where it will be total, 99% is not at all the same as being in the path of totality. A cool thing that happens is, you know when you look at something far away and the hot air makes it look wavy? That happens to the sunlight just before totality, you'll start to see this wavy moving pattern on the ground just before the sun gets completely covered. Ok I'll stop, there's my lecture, I hope some of you get to enjoy it!
More on this photo: this is a composite of many exposures, which allows you to see the delicate structure of the corona. Took some shot that show detail in the really bright areas close to the sun, and then some longer exposures to bring out the details on the farther away areas.
