This could not describe what happened with me better… going on the path of HR has made me feel much more stable than pursuing art as a career in this era of unchecked capitalism and disruption… I at least need a space to heal—and keep work and art wholly separate. It’s especially bad when you often conflated your art with your self-worth like I did…
Oh man, this advice could've altered my entire life had I followed it. I loved rocks growing up, so of course I wanted to be a geologist. Went through several years of schooling, did not even finish the Bachelor's because I flunked Calculus too many times so had to settle for a different degree. Once I got out, I was so burnt out I didn't even want to look at rocks anymore.
Also a major reason why I didn't become a musician even though family and family friends were asking if I was considering a career in music. I know how grueling the hours are and I didn't want any of that.
