It was planned in a more early draft of the movie. She initially was planned to have a much larger role throughout the story. The filmmakers stated that she was supposed to be transformed into a talking pegasus and it would have been too hard to hide her pregnancy for the big reveal in the end.
Well, considering the pic above, I guess it'd be hard to hide her pregnancy even if she wouldn't be able to talk :P
