“Hmmm… Tome Of the Water Elemental - what a wondrous new spell! Now, all I need to summon is a large body of water- Oh… Wait. No, no… That’s far, far too disgusting, even for us rats! Perhaps a… Wind elemental? No! That’s far worse. Drat. What a horrific place to practice magicks!”

Lorki Tinscamp was a creature of contradiction. Born as a Sewer Rat, he had far more uplanderish tastes than he aught to, and a great revulsion towards all the squalor of his home-pipes. His interest towards magic began largely as a way to change his environment and standard of living. Learning his trade through the odd collections of spellbook scraps that floated into the sewers from a nearby Arcane University, as well as the oral traditions or grimy scratchings of the ancient “Sewer Mages”, he formed a shockingly clean niche for himself.
Using air magic to change the scents to something sweeter, water magicks to groom him and his little hovel, and fire to burn away unwanted refuse, he became an underground adept purely through these obsessions with grooming and cleanliness, making him an utter alien to the rest of his kind. Not that he minded, though - he thought they were all mad for living in such filth!
Sadly for the rat, though, he couldn’t purify all of the sewers, at least not yet. His prowess as a mage though was limited only by his environment, but his unique aims towards his spellcraft empowered Lorki beyond many fledgling hedgemages in the city above. But, setbacks and shame kept him pinned down below.
If he were able to keep but in his hovel, he wouldn’t mind at all. Furnished with plush, salvaged objects from above, and lined with ramshackle bookcases and tomes, and more than a few basic luxuries. Lorki also gained a true fondness for conjured food, leading to an explosion in his waistline’s size. His body grew slowly larger with each day, making it more difficult to get to tight spaces in the sewer realms.
Still, the search for more knowledge drew him into new places, deep and dark, and only time would tell where this thirst for knowledge would take him next…

Here’s an inked version of that Sewer Mage sketch I posted on Saturday, with some fun, accompanying lore! I hope you all enjoy this bashful, broad magician, and after writing his story, I’ll admit I’m a little interested in bringing this guy back in some way in the future.
