Awoken.
It wasn’t long past ótta (3am) when he awoke. He was aware of the delayed and dulled state of his senses - yet he could make out a clear and distinct sound from where he lay. It was rhythmic as a bird call, but pronounced within a low rumble. He seemingly heard it better with his chest than his ears.
Wearing his undergarments, he cautiously followed the direction of the sensation from his dwelling until he reached a river's rocky and uneven edge. His eyes finally began to adjust to the starlit forest surroundings of the moonless night.
When the sensation ceased, he felt isolated. Without its company, he felt his chest grow tight with anxiety. He acted on it and began the journey back to his mattress.
