I don't often get the chance to make fan-art or do art just for fun. I specifically spent the week working on this and it was a nice change of pace. I *love* working with traditional media.
I initially wanted to do this in watercolor, but time snuck up on me. I made this to get it signed by Don Bluth himself, who would be in my city this weekend for a convention. He's been a huge inspiration and influence on my art over the years.
Unfortunately, it was not meant to be. The weather caused many delays and a few cancellations-including Don Bluth. I'm honestly heartbroken. I've never cared about celebrity autographs. But the greatest animator alive today? One of the reasons I am who I am and do what I do? That felt special.
So for now, this piece will be incomplete until the day I'm able to get him to sign it. He's 84 years young and I don't know how many more public appearances he'll be making.
I'm happy with how this turned out, at least. I'm glad that I got to pull out my markers. I had a lot of fun drawing some of my favorite characters from childhood. And now one of my partners wants to watch some of his films with me. So I at least have that to look forward to. :)
